a little personal share...
This weekend my oldest competed in the Ironman 70.3 Waco. And of course I made a few photographs.
But I also didn’t make a lot of photos.
There were times I saw him coming and put the camera down because I didn't think he didn’t need me to photograph him. I felt he needed his mom cheering as loud as she could.
Sometimes the camera won. Sometimes being mom did.
Photographing something like this is a lot. You’re trying to figure out where they’re going to be, where you need to be, what you might miss while you’re somewhere else... and hoping you get some good stuff along the way.
I think that’s something we forget sometimes when we see photos from an event. There was someone on the other side of those images, trying to catch as much of it as they could. So when I share someone else’s photo, I try to remember to include their name too. It’s a small thing, but I know how much goes into being the one behind the camera.
Did I get every shot of Jack that day? Nope.
But I got to watch my kid finish another Ironman 70.3.
And sometimes I put my camera down and just cheered for him.
Those might actually be the moments I remember the most.
