Flag football, cowboy boots, pretty dresses AND her spunky grandma. Gillian’s senior session pretty much had it all. 😂🤍

Gillian is a senior at Mundelein High School and when she told me she plays soccer AND flag football, I was like…okay, the football uniform is definitely coming with us. 🏈

And I’m so glad it did.

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is getting to photograph all the different sides of who you are right now. Gillian can rock a football uniform one minute and then throw on the cutest little summer outfit with cowboy boots or a gorgeous dress the next. And somehow it all just works because it’s HER.

We spent the evening around Crystal Lake and the beautiful shores of Vulcan Lake, and Gillian brought so many cute outfits that we had plenty to play with.

But we couldn’t make the whole night about Gillian. 😂

Her mom and grandma came along, and after meeting her grandma, there was absolutely NO WAY she was getting out of there without being in some pictures. She was a hoot! Getting photos of Gillian with both her mom and grandma ended up being such a special little part of the night.
This is what I want your senior pictures to feel like.

Bring the football uniform. Bring the cowboy boots. Bring your favorite dress. Bring your mom. Bring your crazy grandma. 😂 Bring all the things and all the people that make this season of your life feel like YOU.

Because someday those might just be your favorite pictures of all. 🤍

Tall trees, favorite records, a Smashing Pumpkins concert tee and one absolutely INSANE sunset. This session was so Sydney. 🤍

And honestly, those are my favorite kinds of senior sessions. The ones where we take all the things you love, mix in a few ideas of my own and just see where the evening takes us.

Sydney knew she wanted to start in the tall trees, and luckily we have the most beautiful spot for that right here at Veteran Acres in Crystal Lake. There is just something about being tucked into those trees that doesn’t even feel like Illinois. 🌲

Music is a big part of who Sydney is, so of course we had to incorporate some of her favorite vinyl records. And the timing was kind of perfect because she had been at the Smashing Pumpkins concert the NIGHT before our session. Naturally, the new concert tee came along too. 🎶

She also asked me if we could do some of her images in black and white. I honestly haven’t played around with black and white photography in quite a while, and I’m so glad she asked because I had forgotten how much I LOVE it.

As the evening went on, the skies got more and more overcast, which I actually loved because it gave us the prettiest soft light. I was perfectly happy with our soft gray sky and figured that was how we were going to end the night.
And then, in about 10 minutes, EVERYTHING changed.

The sky went from soft gray to the most incredible sunset and we were literally dying over how gorgeous it was. 😍🌅
We knew we had to move FAST, so we ran to our last spot, got Sydney into her final outfit and took advantage of every last second of that sky. I could not have painted a prettier sunset if I tried.

And that’s kind of the magic of senior sessions. We can plan the outfits and locations and bring along all the little things that tell your story, but we also leave a little room for the unexpected.

And sometimes the unexpected is really, really good.

Some senior sessions just tell you exactly who someone is… and Lorelai’s was one of those. 🤍

We started at a place Lorelai and her family have spent so much time together, with their sweet pup, of course. 🐾 And since the whole crew came along, we snuck in some family photos and sister pics too. Because senior year isn’t just a milestone for the senior…it’s a pretty big one for the whole family.

But what I loved most about Lorelai’s session was how much of HER she brought into it.
Her childhood stuffed bunny came along. 
We made a stop at Siren’s Records in McHenry, which was SO cool and brought out this completely fun, playful side of her. 🎶

And then…we headed to the stage. 🎭✨

Theater has been such a huge part of Lorelai’s life—she’s been in more than 40 musicals & theatre productions!! So there was no question that we needed to photograph this chapter of her story on the stage at Crystal Lake South.

With her parents and one of her good friends helping behind the scenes, we played with the spotlight, experimented a little, laughed a lot…and created some of my FAVORITE images from her session. ❤️

Because someday these photos won’t just remind Lorelai what she looked like senior year.

They’ll remind her who she was.

I love how the universe has a way of sending us the people we’re simply meant to meet. ✨

From the moment I met Sophia and her mama, Joanna, I felt it. That instant connection where you just know you were meant to find each other.

Sophia’s senior session was pure magic. 🤍 The kind of evening where everything comes together…the light, the laughter, the little moments in between. I truly felt like I was meant to be her photographer and the one to tell this chapter of her story.

I’m forever grateful that these two beautiful souls found their way to me. Sophia and Joanna, you were an absolute joy in every single way.

And soon, all of this magic will live inside a gorgeous heirloom album that Sophia can hold in her hands and someday look back on and remember exactly who she was in this moment. ✨

Keira’s senior session was the perfect mix of beautiful, spontaneous, and just a little bit crazy… which is pretty much my favorite kind of session. 🤍

We started in downtown Crystal Lake with Keira in her gorgeous leo and tutu when I got the wild idea that we should pretend she was boarding the Metra train. 😂🚂 And of course, she was totally game! Fair warning: don’t be surprised if I come up with a nutty idea in the middle of your session. Sometimes those end up being my favorite photos!

Next we headed to one of my favorite spots along the river, where we frolicked through the flowers and soaked up the prettiest summer evening. Then Dad surprised us by showing up with Keira’s two pups… who apparently missed the memo that they were there for a photoshoot. 😂🐾 They definitely had their own agenda!

And THEN we found this incredible little pocket of light along the path that was pure magic. ✨ You know the kind of light that makes a photographer stop everything and say, “RIGHT HERE!” Yep. That.

I absolutely loved spending the evening with Keira and her mama, laughing, exploring, chasing beautiful light and creating senior memories that are so completely her. 🤍

Keira, you were absolutely stunning! What a fun night this was. ✨

THE SUMMER THEY TURNED SENIORS!! 🎬🍿❤️💙

One last summer night before senior year officially takes over…and I think we did it right.

Pizza, way too much candy, Spider-Man at the drive-in, lots of laughing and one seriously FUN summer night. 🍕🍬🕷️

But my favorite part? Watching these girls become friends.

They come from different schools and different friend groups, and somewhere between the photoshoots, adventures and nights like this, real friendships are starting to form. 🥹

That’s what I love most about the Senior Team. Yes, we take lots of pretty pictures, but it’s really about the friendships, the experiences and getting to make memories together during one of the biggest years of their lives.

I’m so honored they’ve chosen to share the summer they turned seniors and this final chapter of high school with me.
And the best part? We’re just getting started. 🎓❤️✨

If we have a session scheduled and the weather decides not to cooperate we simply reschedule. It’s not the end of the world. We will work it out. So far this summer I’ve not had a drop of rain during a session. Have I rescheduled??? YES, but we survived. It’s not the end of the world😊

Some summer evenings just have a little extra magic, and Sophia’s senior session was one of them. ✨

We wandered around Libertyville, stopping at some of the sweetest little spots, and every time we turned a corner the light just kept getting better. Golden sunshine, a warm summer breeze, and the kind of evening photographers dream about.

I’m already completely in LOVE with this session, and these are just the sneak peeks. I seriously cannot wait to share the rest. 🤍

There is something so special about photographing sisters but even more special, twins. 🤍

Jordin and Kiera wanted their senior portrait session to feel like summer…carefree, relaxed, and full of the little things that make this season unforgettable.

We started wandering through downtown Richmond, grabbed ice cream at the cutest little shop (because these two absolutely LOVE ice cream 🍦), and spent the evening chasing the most beautiful golden light at one of my favorite locations.

One of my favorite parts of their session was how intentionally they celebrated both who they are together and who they are individually. As twins, they’ll always share a unique bond, but they also wanted each of their personalities to shine. They even brought their Bibles because their faith is such an important part of who they are, and it was meaningful to include that chapter of their story in these images.

That’s what I love most about senior portraits. They’re about so much more than beautiful photos. They’re about preserving this season exactly as it feels…the passions, the friendships, the faith, the laughter, and the person they’re becoming before life carries them into the next chapter.

Jordin and Kiera, thank you for trusting me with such an important milestone. I truly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening with two of the sweetest girls.

Some evenings just stay with you… and Kayla’s senior session is one I’ll never forget. 🤍

From the moment she stepped out in her fun summer dress and cowboy boots, I knew we were about to create something special. We chased the most beautiful summer light around Fox Lake, wandered across the bridge for a moodier feel, and ended the evening along the rocky shoreline as the sun slipped below the horizon. Every location told a different part of her story.

Kayla is a senior at Johnsburg High School and a talented member of their soccer team, but this session wasn’t just about celebrating everything she’s accomplished. It was about preserving who she is in this fleeting season of life, right before everything changes.

Now comes one of my favorite parts.

Soon these photographs will become a beautiful heirloom album that tells the story of Kayla’s senior year. Years from now, she’ll be able to hold these memories in her hands, and one day, generations after her will too.

That is why I believe so deeply in printing your photographs. Digital images are wonderful, but printed photographs become part of your family’s story.
