I could hardly wait to share some sneak peeks from Tricia’s senior session. We had such a beautiful fall day filled with special places and fall colors. Of course we had to visit her home turf at Prairie Ridge High School to get some amazing cheer photos. Can’t wait for her Image Reveal tomorrow when she gets to see all of her photos for the first time.

There’s something so magical about a gorgeous fall day in the Midwest. When I say Kendall senior photoshoot was perfection, I mean it!! We couldn’t have ordered up a more beautiful day if we tried.

Soccer cleats. Cowboy boots. Jeans. Floral & Ruffles. ⚽️🤠🌸

Because senior photos should show off ALL the sides of you—and Winter’s session did exactly that. 🤍

We kicked off her session on the soccer field, highlighting one of the THREE sports Winter plays. Soccer has been such a big part of her high school years, so of course it deserved its own moment in her senior photos!

Then we headed to one of the prettiest spots Crystal Lake has to offer, Three Oaks Recreation Area, and completely switched gears.

A denim dress and cowboy boots tucked among the wildflowers. 🌼 A floral wrap skirt, the sweetest flirty top paired with jeans. And then…THE DRESS. 😍 The most stunning floral dress with gorgeous ruffles and an incredible detailed open back. It was made for this location!

I absolutely LOVE when a senior session feels like this.

Sporty. Sweet. Casual. Girly. Strong. Beautiful.

You don’t have to choose just one version of yourself for your senior photos. Bring the soccer cleats AND the ruffles. Bring the cowboy boots AND the pretty dress.

Dance photos on pointe, turquoise cowboy boots, coral daisies and the dreamiest golden light. Caroline’s Libertyville senior session was SO GOOD. 🤍

We started at Adler Arts Center with her dance look and when I say my jaw is still on the floor over these photos, I’m serious. 😍 I honestly can’t think of a more perfect backdrop for Caroline’s pointe photos.

Next came the prettiest white dress paired with the most amazing turquoise cowboy boots that Caroline “borrowed” from her mom. Although after seeing these photos, I’m not entirely sure Mom is getting them back. 😂 She also picked up the most vibrant coral daisies on the way to her session and they were the PERFECT pop of color.

It’s those little details that make your senior photos feel like YOU.

From there we headed to Independence Grove for the rest of her senior session. We had to wait a bit for the bridge, but boy did that work in our favor. By the time we got there, the light was streaming over the tops of the trees and it was absolutely magnificent. ✨

We even tried a couple of new spots that did NOT disappoint and have officially been added to my Libertyville favorites.

And ending the night against that gorgeous golden sunset? The cherry on top.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening with Caroline and her mom. My photographer heart is so happy!

Class of 2027, your senior pictures should show off ALL the things that make you YOU. Your sport, your art, your style, your favorite flowers, even the boots you steal from Mom. 😉

Downtown Crystal Lake, dreamy light, a little family history and the perfect sunset. Grace’s senior session had ALL the good stuff. 🤍

We started her senior photos at the new Depot Park in downtown Crystal Lake, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite little spots for portraits. Then we headed to the covered bridge where the light is just dreamy every single time. ✨

But Shamrock Farm was extra special. Grace’s dad actually lived in the house there when he was young, so getting to include a place with that kind of family history in her senior pictures made this stop so much more meaningful.

And WOW did the light show up for us. 😍 We found the prettiest field of flowers with the sun streaming through the trees and it was absolute perfection.

We finished the night high on the hill at Sterne’s Woods with the most beautiful Crystal Lake sunset. 🌅

Seriously, Grace!! I am completely obsessed with how these turned out. 🤍

This is what I love about planning senior sessions. We can choose beautiful locations, but we can also incorporate places that mean something to YOU.

Flag football, cowboy boots, pretty dresses AND her spunky grandma. Gillian’s senior session pretty much had it all. 😂🤍

Gillian is a senior at Mundelein High School and when she told me she plays soccer AND flag football, I was like…okay, the football uniform is definitely coming with us. 🏈

And I’m so glad it did.

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is getting to photograph all the different sides of who you are right now. Gillian can rock a football uniform one minute and then throw on the cutest little summer outfit with cowboy boots or a gorgeous dress the next. And somehow it all just works because it’s HER.

We spent the evening around Crystal Lake and the beautiful shores of Vulcan Lake, and Gillian brought so many cute outfits that we had plenty to play with.

But we couldn’t make the whole night about Gillian. 😂

Her mom and grandma came along, and after meeting her grandma, there was absolutely NO WAY she was getting out of there without being in some pictures. She was a hoot! Getting photos of Gillian with both her mom and grandma ended up being such a special little part of the night.
This is what I want your senior pictures to feel like.

Bring the football uniform. Bring the cowboy boots. Bring your favorite dress. Bring your mom. Bring your crazy grandma. 😂 Bring all the things and all the people that make this season of your life feel like YOU.

Because someday those might just be your favorite pictures of all. 🤍

Gillian, you were SO much fun to photograph. I loved this night with you and your sweet family!

Tall trees, favorite records, a Smashing Pumpkins concert tee and one absolutely INSANE sunset. This session was so Sydney. 🤍

And honestly, those are my favorite kinds of senior sessions. The ones where we take all the things you love, mix in a few ideas of my own and just see where the evening takes us.

Sydney knew she wanted to start in the tall trees, and luckily we have the most beautiful spot for that right here at Veteran Acres in Crystal Lake. There is just something about being tucked into those trees that doesn’t even feel like Illinois. 🌲

Music is a big part of who Sydney is, so of course we had to incorporate some of her favorite vinyl records. And the timing was kind of perfect because she had been at the Smashing Pumpkins concert the NIGHT before our session. Naturally, the new concert tee came along too. 🎶

She also asked me if we could do some of her images in black and white. I honestly haven’t played around with black and white photography in quite a while, and I’m so glad she asked because I had forgotten how much I LOVE it.

As the evening went on, the skies got more and more overcast, which I actually loved because it gave us the prettiest soft light. I was perfectly happy with our soft gray sky and figured that was how we were going to end the night.
And then, in about 10 minutes, EVERYTHING changed.

The sky went from soft gray to the most incredible sunset and we were literally dying over how gorgeous it was. 😍🌅
We knew we had to move FAST, so we ran to our last spot, got Sydney into her final outfit and took advantage of every last second of that sky. I could not have painted a prettier sunset if I tried.

And that’s kind of the magic of senior sessions. We can plan the outfits and locations and bring along all the little things that tell your story, but we also leave a little room for the unexpected.

And sometimes the unexpected is really, really good.
