One of my favorite sessions of all time.

A really dreamy surprise proposal on Newport Charter ‘s Camelot. Not to make it about me, but I posed as “the social media person” and staff so it just seemed like a regular boat ride, and then K pulled off a really stunning proposal, despite the ring box being a litttttttlleeeee stuck in his pocket. They visited from out of state to stay in Newport for a few days, and it was really fun to plan this one out.

The sunset was one of the best I saw last year, and Camelot’s captain was nice enough to stretch it out for these two.

Being on the boat lent itself to a lot of creative shots, and their album remains one of my favorites ever turned back. So, if you want to visit Newport, or Rhode Island, get some local recommendations, and see my acting skills, consider this my application for your surprise proposal needs.

📍🇦🇽 Mariehamn, Åland Islands. Åland is an autonomous region of Finland, that speaks Swedish. This was our second to last(ish) stop, and we stayed at another adorable marina that was a 15 minute walk or so to a lovely little town filled with cafes, shops, and a tourist center where I could buy my post cards. Åland was adorably dog friendly, as most places were, but here the shop owners often have dogs waiting in line at the counter for their treats.

Sandy, the best girl, found herself a deflated soccer ball and lit up like a Christmas tree. Flo muttered “we might have a problem now” and tried to hide it in a small sail boat while we went to have lunch. Almost an hour later, sweet Sandy launched her top secret mission, army crawled out of the restaurant, and took off to relocate her prize. She bounded back with the floppy ball a few minutes later earning the affection of the entire dock. It did not leave her sight again. She smuggled it onto Skipper Zipper and proceeded to cuddle with it all night long.

I’m sure Åland had more to offer, like perfect dinners with our friends, essential route planning, and nightly “slot machines” (slaapmutsjes) but Sandy’s soccer ball was frankly the most important thing that happened there.

I couldn’t even get a good picture of her whirling around snd shaking the thing, but they’re some of my favorites I’ve ever taken. She looks like a little blurry muppet and I love her.

📍Finland - a remote anchorage near the Ekenäs Archipelago National Park, and the Verkan Marina in Korpo, where we spent a long weekend after a peaceful few days of navigating some complex waters.

Even the walk to the grocery store was serene, winding through a magical fairy forest that opened up to an even more magical horse farm.

We hiked, listened to our good friend play some music, swam, went in the sauna, BBQed and enjoyed some tranquil days in this beautiful area. Very lucky to have third wheeled such a romantic holiday 😅😘

The girls had a TIME in Helsinki, Finland. Saunas, swimming, live music, great cafes, informative talks on sailing the Finnish Archipelago, food markets with the best salmon you’ve ever had, sing a longs on boat parties, warm weather and pretty sunsets.

Today is our last official sail from where we anchored to do a Wild Mooring BBQ last night to Bullandö. It will be a short trip but a good one and this has just been the most fun anyone could ever have.

📍Tallinn, Estonia

I flew from Copenhagen, Denmark to Tallinn, Estonia to meet up with the fleet again and made it just in time for dinner that night.

We took off the next day to head to Helsinki but the old town in Tallinn was beautiful and it was especially nice to be reunited with everyone again.

Switching countries means you also switch your flags- on the back of your boat you typically show where you’re from (we’re flying the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Icebear flew USA 🇺🇸 ) but on the front of your boat, up the mast, you fly a courtesy flag for the country you’re visiting. The last slide is Flo changing out of a flag, it’s one of my favorite parts of crossing over to a new place.

📍Copenhagen, Denmark

After Icebear crashed, I was planning to come home before Skipper Zipper generously invited me to go with them, but I had met a really nice person in Bornholm who lives in Denmark near Copenhagen and figured I would see if they could host me for the weekend.

After a truly glorious night of alone time, I woke up to explore the city with a local and had the best time. We sat on the canal people watching and having Aperol spritzes and visited Freetown Christiana and the next day we saw some iconic things like the mermaid, changing of the guards and Nyhavn, and each place we visited was more special than the next.

It’s been so incredible to make friends all over the world, and to learn how quickly you can make connections when you step a little outside your comfort zone.

The link for these photos is in my bio, feel free to browse the full size. 😘

From Bornholm Icebear sailed to Utklippan, Sweden which is a tiny cluster of islands inhabited mostly by birds and seals.

The island is responsible for a lot of bird tagging, and has informational signs all over explaining the conservation efforts, nesting habits, and birds they’ve identified over the years.

They provide row boats so you can go around within the cluster and see the seals or dock and walk around and it was just a really special place to visit and one of those moments that felt like a dream. I’d have never seen this place if not for Icebear and Kurt and Carol’s careful planning and it was so beautiful and we all had a really relaxing night, sharing a meal together, chatting with others spending the night and exploring before the sun went down.
