Decision fatigue when it comes to choosing photos to post is so real. It takes up a lot of space in my brain so today I’m trying not to think too hard and just share some sweet moments and details from the McKey wedding!

For all the pregnant moms (or soon-to-be) out there who are considering newborn photos, you’ll want to read this:
I realized recently that there are some misconceptions about when the best time to schedule your newborn photo session is. I’d love to shed some light for anyone who may benefit:
1. The best time to reach out to your photographer about scheduling your newborn photos is in your 2nd trimester. It is ok that we probably won’t know an exact date of when baby will arrive. Consider your due date and pick a tentative date about 1.5 weeks after.
2. Once baby arrives you will be in a newborn bubble (understandably) and not in a headspace for finding and booking a photographer.
3. My schedule fills up months in advance. I take a limited number of sessions each month, it’s better to save a spot early and we can move the date later if needed.
4. Newborns are ideally taken the first 2 weeks of birth. Babies change SO quickly in that first month. You’ll probably look back 4 weeks postpartum and feel like you have a different baby, ideally we’ll capture that fresh newborn goodness early.
5. The sooner we take them the more likely your session will be smoother with lots of naps for your little one.
6. You may be thinking “But I don’t want to be in photos 2 weeks postpartum”. My best advice is to wear a forgiving dress and trust that your photographer will lean into the more flattering poses to help make you feel your most comfortable. I promise in 10 years you will not care.
7. Unfortunately I’ve had to turn away some families lately because my calendar was booked up by the time they reached out, this is just a PSA to help anyone who is on the fence about when to schedule.
