Every year there are so many special moments it's hard to really chose nor is it fair really on which ones are just a step above because we share so many intimate and amazing moments with each camp and tour but this year our wolf camps really stood out. With a decade behind us now in Katmai we use everything we've learned to do everything we can to put you in the right spots and this year we had multiple wolf encounters including seeing this guy several times with an epic encounter this week for many lifetimes over. As we worked our way around the coast to move our group into positions to watch bears and wolves fishing we were pinned down by this guy as he laid on the beach then got up and bedded a mere 80 yards away for over 5 1/2 hours our group showed extreme patience and were rewarded with something magical. Not only did the completely relaxed wolf rest with us, he got up and chased off a fox and then came back to his bed and after 2 more hours of waiting and a timely approach to 60 yards he got up, stretched and scratched for a few minutes then calmly walked right up to our group and passed along the berm a mere 20' away, with that, etching a memory in 10 peoples lives forever in a most peaceful way in one of the most beautiful places on earth. These are four frames from several of the encounters with him this summer but he is one giant wild animal in a wild place and we can't wait to announce several new wolf tour dates coming soon to various locations in Katmai over the next several years. Last night during our current Katmai wolf/bear camp our amazing group this week is focused not on just the wildlife but truly deep diving into the creative side of photography including many of our passions for backlit magic and it got me thinking about some of my personal favorite frames from the last few years of backlit bliss. It is not everyone's cup of tea, some much prefer front lit frames but back light offers you a chance to truly paint with the camera. We had the most epic night last night and I can't wait to get to share frames from it over the coming year. Today is a special one, our last night in camp for 2026, we are going to give it hell way into the night including some astro of camp weather permitting. It's been a much better weather year than last and we are so very thankful for that and all of our amazing guests! This year was a blessing for us all on the Alaska Bear Camps team and we can't wait to host so many of you in the coming years. With 2027 fully booked for bear camps we can add you to a waitlist or you can book 2028 camps as well but also be watching for some new offerings that are super special trips! What a stunning morning and start to our last camp of the season! Bears and wolves on the list this week with lots of early mornings epic sunrises just like this one! Hoping to sneak in a little night sky stuff too! It’s been a very blessed season for us and we can’t wait to start sharing tons of really beautiful new work with you all soon!!! It’s been an amazing summer to say the least, much better weather than last year and so many amazing guests and experiences shared just like yesterdays “drive by” from this mom and amazing 3 little COY(Cubs of the Year) my wife’s beautiful reel of these little next gen baby bears coming to say hi😊 we set up well over 100 yards from them and mom literally just got right up to bring the babies past to show them off, it doesn’t get any better than this. We hope everyone is doing amazing!

It's starting to get darker, quickly, and in just a few weeks we will be able to see and capture an old friend when she makes an appearance and it's usually in a big way in early fall! With the midnight sun now fading and the nights growing dim the mighty aurora will soon announce her arrival back for us all to enjoy! Fall is by far my favorite season and the aurora just adds to that. Between fall colors, cold frosty mornings and the anticipation of epic aurora shows it's hard not to love the autumn months. Although we have several weeks left in bearadise we are excited about all that lies ahead this fall...especially the thought of chasing the lights! Weather it's Montana, Iceland, Alaska or Canada we are always watching, waiting and planning. We happily help anyone that is interested in seeing or photographing the lights wherever you are, it's one of our amazing planets most beautiful experiences! Montana...home...so much so I always have a counter until we get back there. We've had a blessed and amazing season thus far here in Alaska but already I can't wait to get home to fall Montana, family and the great Big Sky. We are blessed all around with where we spend our time but Montana will always be tops for me...nothing against you Alaska but...Home is simply Home. Right now as we enjoy another three weeks with the bears my thoughts drift to combines across Montana and the joy harvest can bring to so many Ag families...the dusty sunsets, the sound of the machines and simply watching farmers doing what they love...someday I'll be able to be back and photograph my favorite state in all her glory but for now we are blessed to be covered in bears with many amazing guests! Never far from my heart and mind the mountains of the west and the prairies of eastern Montana are alway calling...a few frames from my favorite place... Thank you everyone for your amazing support of our work and have a blessed day!

We had a special visitor at camp yesterday and again this morning 🤯! We want to take a moment and thank you all for your incredible support as we are already fully booked for 2027 camps except for 4 spots on our Kodiak Brown Bear Center trip and a soon to be added additional remote wolf camp. We also just brought our 2028 Tour Schedule live on our scottstonesphotography.com site where you can reserve your spot(s) with us. We also have some exciting news coming soon with our Focus Photo Tour company as well with our partners! We don’t get much downtime and we unfortunately just lost 2 days with our current group to a nasty wind storm but we can’t wait to get out there to the bears….and wolves! This summer has also blessed us with some truly incredible sows(females) in the basin as does every year, but something we never take for granted. Camping gives you many advantages over day trips...better light, less fuel impact instead of flying everyday and best of all late afternoons, evenings and nights the basin is just you, God and the bears. Our stunning blonde friend you all know as Sheli, mom of last years amazing triplet COY (cubs of the year who are now HUGE yearlings), Sadie who is a gorgeous young and mild mannered sow as well as Barb (Beautiful and Round Bear) all have given us countless encounters this summer we get to share with you over the years. The thousands of hours we've gotten to spend in Katmai National Park with our amazing guests has been many lifetimes of blessings over and over and we thank you all for supporting our passion and many of you for joining us in our camps. I will try to check in a couple times a week the next month but we these 19-20 hour days don't leave much time to. We hope everyone is doing amazing and have a blessed day friends!

To say we've had a blessed summer is understated and our just completed wolf focused trip was extremely blessed. We were blessed with sightings of 6 different wolves, many stunning bears passing bye as well as a first night surprise of a lynx! Throw in several bald eagles, many shore birds and overall good weather for a 6 day trip and it was a very successful trip. We work extremely hard to put you in locations to maximize your chances on all of our wildlife tours and this trip was a result of that and to some the wolves may not have gotten super close but still offered great opportunities for those with the right mindset, it is far more about the experience to us and we know how difficult it is to get wolf encounters sub 20 yards. Seeing 6 wolves navigate this marine world that overlaps wilderness in such unique settings is a blessing most would die for and thankfully the vast majority of our guests feel the same and feel for those who don't share that. No matter where your travels take you, always remember to soak it in and be thankful for all God puts in front of you and treat your guide staff with respect. The social media age we live in may make it seem like everything is easy but that is far from the truth, these images and the work behind them are very hard earned and I can't be more proud of our team...and yes, be watching for more wolf tours from us in 2027 and 2028! Thank you as always for your amazing support friends!

Many people ask us if we prefer the stunning sun-bleached blonde bears or the incredibly handsome chocolate boars that roam the Katmai Coast and there is only one right answer...yes! Lol In all seriousness though as time goes on I think I love the big dark males more and more over the years and this guy more than fits the bill for a truly stunning bear. Every once in a while in the field we see a frame come together that is just extra special and this one for me is one of those and one of my personal favorites I've ever taken. His size, his gentle demeanor, his incredible coat, his stance and that gaze looking off into the NE wind and his future...not just what other bears are near but looking into the future where we sure as hell all hope they don't ever get to mine in areas like the Bristol Bay region or Katmai and many other National Parks. There was just something about his long, drawn out stare that was way more profound than we could ever capture but for our group sitting there right along with us it was a most magical evening and this guy left a lasting impression.
