My sweet girl is 17 today. 💕 We love her so dearly, and are beyond proud of the young lady she has become.

STORY TIME: Some of you have been here since my very humble beginnings… back when Melissa DeWitt Photography started with me simply taking photos of Gracie when she was a newbie.

Some of you might even remember Gracie tagging along to your sessions… either riding on my back in a carrier or playing close by while I photographed your families because my husband worked 2nds at the time. 🥹

The truth is, if it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure Melissa DeWitt Photography would even exist. My original plan was to graduate college, move to a bigger city, and work at a marketing firm. In 2007 I had my degree, I had my plan, and I was ready to start my career. And then… plot twist.

I married my high school sweetheart… and we had Gracie.

Choosing to stay home was one of the best decisions we ever made. Was it hard? Absolutely. Was it what I had planned? Not even close. But it taught me one of the greatest lessons: sometimes surrendering our plans makes room for something even more beautiful than we imagined. His plans are greater, ALWAYS.

I needed a creative outlet during those early years at home, and that little outlet slowly grew into this business. A business that has allowed me to photograph so many of your stories while still being present for mine.

So today I’m celebrating the girl who not only made me a mom… but unknowingly helped me discover a calling I never saw coming.

Happy 17th birthday, Gracie Monroe. 💕 I’m so thankful God chose me to be your mom.

Ps: she styled this entire shoot, I just chose the time, location, and showed up with my camera. 😅

Go Mastodons! 🐘 Not too often do I have the honor of photographing college grads, but when I do, I absolutely love it. There’s something really special about capturing the pause between graduation day and the brand new chapter waiting to begin. Hannah is stepping into a beautiful season of life…soon to be an elementary teacher AND soon to be married.

Having a session with your kiddos, or including your mama...those sessions are so near and dear to my heart. As moms, we usually have hundreds of photos OF our kids, but hardly any truly beautiful ones WITH them...and if we are in the frame, it’s usually a rushed selfie in leggings or sweats. 🤣

There’s something so special about getting dressed up, slowing down for a moment, laughing with your babies, and preserving this season together. Even without the blooming trees showing off for us this year, the smiles, laughter, cuddles, and pure adorableness made these Mother’s Day sessions feel pretty incredible!

Hi, ya'll!! I'm working on a fun little project. Have you ever heard of a STRANGERS PHOTO SESSION??

A Strangers Photo Session is exactly what it sounds like… two people who have never met, meeting for the very first time in front of my camera.

I’ll pair one male and one female to step into a “couples style” session where we capture connection, chemistry, and those in-between moments that feel real and effortless.

✨✨I’m looking for a few models, and then for a special project I have in mind, I’d love to find a female with longer auburn/red hair and a male with darker hair. ✨✨ Know someone who would be a great fit? Tag them below! 😊

There’s no kissing involved, but you can expect prompts like forehead touches, hand holding, hugs, piggyback rides, standing close, and plenty of laughter. Please only apply if you feel comfortable with that level of interaction.
