FILMING A GHOST TOWN: LAMONA, WA: POP. 7

There are so many small towns in the inland northwest that I've wanted to photograph but haven't had the time. Now, whenever I'm in eastern WA and not pressed for time, I take my drone with me to take stock footage.

Lamona is a tiny town between Odessa and Harrington. Not much has been written about it, but it is a relic of the late 19th century when rail commerce created so many towns across the plains and prairies. Most of these towns were de-populated after the automobile and the construction of highway systems.

I drove an hour from Spokane to get there. When that general store/post office in the clip below was thriving, it would have taken me 2 days by horse or longer by wagon.

A look at a tiny, unincorporated town of 7 people an hour northwest...

TWILIGHT TIME

So much to update here, so little time to do it. Let's start with our last real estate shoot in Post Falls, a large single family home set on a lush, landscaped acre lot that feels much larger.

Before doing the interior and full exterior and a Matterport tour, we did a twilight shoot. To illuminate the gardening and landscape work, we decided to shoot it 40 minutes before sunset.

When you do that, the harsh shadows of morning or afternoon are muted, and greens bloom.

This was also the first tour we've done in some with selective use of flambient (flash) to illuminate dark corners. Unlike HDR, it's not a process that makes for fast in-and-out service, but it's essential for certain types of spaces, and this was one. It's also a process that requires a very different post-production workflow, and we've worked steadily over the past year to test and master we we can add it to our list of services.

Thanks to Kay Rice, the CDA Realtor who worked hard and put in a lot f TLC to get this large home ready for the market.

ANOTHER LANDVISION 360 PROJECT

LandVision360, our own 3D virtual tour platform for large scale acreage and property, was originally designed for the needs of land brokers, but we are continually finding new applications for it.

For local entrepreneur Kelvin Shin, we used it to showcase his development of a Travel Center with cabin lodging across from Siliverwood Theme and Water Park in Athol, ID.

This tour-centric website explains the scope of development, its backstory, business value and include the public information video we posted separately below.

We are now looking at broader applications for property management, mall advertising and other complex commercial real estate marketing stories.

Please reach out if you have one.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND BRANDING

We've released two videos for real estate developer Kelvin Shin, who is building cabin lodging at his Bumble Bee Travel Center across the highway from Silverwood Theme Park.

One is general public information, one is more business oriented.

In March Silverwood was acquired by Herschend Entertainment, which owns and operates theme and water parks across the country, including Dollywood in TN and Silver Dollar in Las Vegas.

Silverwood already attracts 800,000 visitors across the Pacific Northwest annually, and while that number is expected to grow after the acquisition, there is no suitable lodging for park visitors within a 20 miles radius.

These videos tell the story of Kelvin's vision and the business opportunity he is promoting.

The business story of Kevin Shin's project to build cabin lodging for Silverwood Theme Park visitors.

VIRTUAL STAGING HAS A PURPOSE

For this vacant home in Spokane Valley, we produced HDR listing photos and a Matterport 3D tour with embedded photos of virtually staged rooms. It's one of a few listings we've done where virtual staging made a difference.

Whether the home is vacant or not, any room can scrubbed and furnished.

We slug all of our AI de-cluttered and staged rooms so the viewer understands that the image was AI-generated from an original photograph.

Listed for sale at $565000. Updated 5-bed, 3-bath home on a corner lot in Spokane Valley’s Ponderosa neighborhood, just one block from the Dishman H...

FULL MEDIA KIT

We just finished production on a full media kit for a luxurious home on 9 aces in Rathdrum for a new client. We covered 6,000 sq. ft. for listing photography, aerial video and a full interior and exterior Matterport tour - all linked together so that wherever one finds this property for sale, all paths leads back to the agent.

GO COUGARS!

We just finished up a two-day project at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, just over the Idaho state line from the University of Idaho in Moscow.

WSU is best known for its veterinary and agricultural programs which, given its location, is not surprising.

We were there to do a 3D scan and spatial model of their campus bookstore, which sits inside the student union building. The project covered two floors, required 675 scans indoors and outdoors, 9 hours to complete.

The bookstore itself is owned and operated by Barnes & Noble, which has come out bankruptcy with a new business model supplying colleges and universities just like this.

In addition to books, it has a cafe, sundries and foods (they sell large $40 rounds of cheese made by the college farm and dairy).

Like many colleges, WSU has been struggling since the pandemic with declining enrollment, but the clearest impression I got of this student body was the focus students have on their studies - very practical programs of study.

Outside, the weather was glorious, the football team was doing conditioning work in their stadium, which the bookstore overlooks.

This was family weekend, when prospective students and their parents are taken on tours around the campus and student organizations set up booths around the mall, crawling with proud dads, worried moms, teenagers distancing themselves from their parents.
