She is not defined by what she survived. She is defined by the strength it took to rise above it. 🖤
Some photo sessions are about capturing beautiful moments. Others are about telling stories that deserve to be heard.
And then there are sessions like this one. The kind that leave a mark on your heart long after you put your camera down.
This beautiful woman is a domestic violence survivor. But that is only one chapter of her story. This chapter is about survival. About reclaiming her power. About finding her voice. And about the incredible courage it takes to stand in front of the world and say, “I am still here.”
When we planned this session, I knew it would be emotional. What I wasn’t prepared for was just how deeply it would move me.
There is a vulnerability that comes with allowing someone to see the parts of your story that aren’t easy to tell. To trust someone with your pain, your strength, your healing, and everything in between.
And she trusted me with all of it.
I watched this incredible woman step in front of my camera and give so much of herself to these images. There was beauty. There was emotion. There was strength. And there were moments that reminded me exactly why I fell in love with photography in the first place.
Because sometimes a photograph is so much more than a photograph. Sometimes it’s a voice for someone who once felt silenced. Sometimes it’s proof that the person who tried to break you did not get to write the ending of your story.
Domestic violence awareness is something that is deeply personal to me, for reasons that go far beyond photography. And perhaps that’s why this session touched a part of my heart that I don’t often put into words. I know that speaking your truth isn’t always easy. Healing isn’t always a straight line. And finding the courage to share your story with the world can be one of the most vulnerable things a person ever does.
I could not admire this woman more for choosing to speak her truth, for allowing herself to be seen, and for taking these brave steps toward healing. There is something incredibly powerful about watching someone begin to reclaim the pieces of themselves that someone else tried to take away.
I am completely in awe of her.
Not just for what she has survived, but for her willingness to be vulnerable, to share her story, and to help shine a light on something that far too many people experience in silence.
We created these images in honor of ALL domestic violence survivors. Those who have found their way out. Those who are still finding their strength. Those who are healing quietly. And those whose stories have yet to be told.
To the beautiful soul in these photographs: Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for trusting me with something so deeply personal. And thank you for reminding me that courage doesn’t always look like fearlessness. Sometimes courage is simply allowing yourself to be seen.
You are not what happened to you. You are everything that came after. And your story is far from over. 🖤
