Kendrick Brinson recently photographed couple Priscilla and Kiara at their home near Savannah, Georgia, for a Guardian story about throuples. The years the couple has spent together, and the history they have built, are evident in Kendrick's intimate portraits of the pair.

Kendrick said that while shooting, "Priscilla and Kiara were very sweet with each other, and their love for each other was palpable. It was nice to see a couple so at ease. Their daughter, who is a toddler, wandered about with us as we took photos in the living room and then the backyard and then the bedroom, and I asked her to be my photo assistant. She was a cutie."

Kendrick Brinson recently photographed an Atlanta family for the front-page New York Times story "Should Letting Children Play Alone Outside Be a Crime? Some parents have been surprised to find themselves in the legal system’s cross hairs”.

The family had recently given their son, 6 at the time, the opportunity to ride his scooter to a nearby playground by himself. On his way, a woman stopped him, questioning why he was alone and where he lived. “Ms. Shirley and her husband, Christopher Pleasants, believed in instilling a sense of independence in their two children, and they had recently started to give their son opportunities to do things unaccompanied, like asking him to find items in the grocery store.” But then a few days after the scooter ride, a case manager from the Fulton County Division of Family and Children Services showed up at their house.

Kendrick had to be sure not to include the children's faces in the images, and yet the photos are still full of story and emotion.

With an impeccable eye for the natural world, David Walter Banks was chosen to photograph the cover of issue three of Southlands Magazine. The image was captured in Dead Lakes, Florida, where past prolonged flooding left a graveyard of cypress trees emerging eerily out of the water. David's ability to bring a sense of magic to an environmental scene is apparent when looking at the surreal cover image. David also contributed text about one of his new favorite places to the issue.

Olivia Bee was recently featured in Republik Magazine for the series "A Postcard from America," where photographers are invited to explore what life is like in America at the moment. It is no wonder Olivia was chosen for the series, considering the sensitive and nostalgic qualities of her work. An image by Olivia, of her and her daughter Mary, accompanies some beautiful insights from the photographer on the uncertain state of the world.

When the magazine asked her what she worries about, Olivia replied, "I worry about lots of things, but if I start worrying I fall into a hole, and I can't get out. I choose to be optimistic. That humans will always know the human touch. There is a Carl Sandburg quote that I love—'a baby is god's opinion that the world should go on.' I feel that wholeheartedly."
