This is possibly one of my favorite images that I captured during a recent trip to Sweden, it is the Kastellet Stockholm, an old fort in the Stockholm archipelago. I am drawn to it because it was a miracle I even got it in less than ideal conditions for photography.
The fort itself was severely backlit leaving most of the scene in shadow. This also had to be shot from a moving boat that I had no control over, so tripods, long exposures, etc. were not an option. The moving boat also meant I had just a few tries to get my shot as the composition kept changing as the boat continued forward which also ruled out doing a continuous bracketed exposure. In the end a single shot won the day and the incredible dynamic range of the Sony A7C II saved the day by allowing me to recover the shadows successfully in post. There is no AI trickery, not even a sky replacement. This is as shot with standard cleanup, color, and toning adjustments applied to achieve the final effect.
