I slept in on this Monday after attending Salt Shed’s () 2nd year of Warm Love Cool Dreams () last night. Day two wrapped with a magnetic performance by Courtney Barnett (). Backed by heavier drums and bringing a more intense, Petty-esque live presence, she transforms songs that can feel once quiet and introspective on record into something electric onstage. So, now what exciting things will happen today? We just announced a surprise, acoustic, phone-free show with Phoebe Bridgers () at the Orpheum in Champaign. Ok, it’s not such a mundane Monday.

Thalia Hall () was on fire for night five of eight of Twin Peaks’ () sold-out hometown residency celebrating the 10th anniversary of Down in Heaven. Free Range () opened with a calm presence, and it quickly evolved into a sweaty, nostalgic reunion with the grit of a house-party basement show once TP took the stage.

What made the show especially interesting to me was the live rubber stamping used as their projected backdrop — instead of polished, pre-made visuals, the audience got to watch physical markings build in real time. The stage design felt strangely like a giant DIY zine happening right at the hands of Drew Ryan. Quite apropos.

Twenty five years later and hearing Grandaddy’s Sophtware Slump still hits in the same ways. Night one of their anniversary of the album at Thalia Hall () was a poignant, beautiful, tearful delight. I’ll be a real mess when it comes to hearing Blu Wav, in its entirety, live. 🌊 😭
