Some proposals come with butterflies. This one came with thunderclouds.
The forecast for Owen's surprise proposal in Harpers Ferry called for heavy downpours right during our session. Most people would have thought to postponed... but after years of photographing sessions with gloomy forecasts that somehow never produce rain, I've learned not to let the weather app make the final decision. So I encouraged Owen to stick with the plan.
That left him with one small challenge, convincing Carrie that spending the afternoon wandering around Harpers Ferry was still a good idea despite the threatening skies. She probably would have preferred staying home where it was warm and cozy, but thankfully she agreed to the adventure.
What Owen didn't know was that Carrie had been nervous all day. After he got down on one knee and she said "Yes!", she admitted she'd been trembling all day! Maybe she sensed there was something in the air... and it wasn't just the chance of rain.
The clouds stayed overhead, the rain never came, and my lucky streak with rainy forecasts is still alive! Instead, we spent the afternoon exploring some of Harpers Ferrys hidden corners while these two soaked in every moment of the beginning of their forever.
