We met in the park for a Picnic where they would find out the gender of their baby. I left the park crying over how sweet it was!
As a photographer, it’s so easy to get caught up in the shot list and wanting to make sure your client feels like they got as much as they could during their time with you so you fill every second with prompts and poses. But in the midst of it, we tend to not leave space for life to just occur naturally. When I was a baby photographer and even now, it felt wrong to just pause and capture a family or couple being themselves without directing them.
But going into 2026 I really wanted to change this for my sessions. I wanted to slow down and leave space for life to happen in front of my camera without me directing each move. Will I still pose you?! Absolutely! We will still get a few really great shots with everyone smiling at me but I’m also leaving space for your story to unfold naturally in front of my camera. 🤍
For this session, toward the end I really wanted them to just soak in this moment. Just in case it was a boy, Shelby had bought the book “Why A Son Needs A Dad” 🥹 So, I suggested that they read a few pages of the book together and WHEW. I was not prepared for how emotional that could be. I highly recommend 😭 That small prompt created space for memories that will last a lifetime for them.
This year, we are making space-for all things. 🤍
