◉ Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is located in Arizona, immediately south of the Utah state line.
◉ The Vermilion Cliffs are steep eroded escarpments consisting primarily of sandstone, siltstone, limestone, and shale which rise as much as 3,000 feet (910 m) above their bases. These sedimentary rocks have been deeply eroded for millions of years, exposing hundreds of layers of richly colored rock strata. Tables, buttes, and large tablelands are interspersed with steep canyons, where some small streams provide enough moisture to support a sampling of wildlife.

Happy Iowa State Fair Day! It's the first day of the fair, and if you are planning to drop in at the Photography Salon at the Cultural Center look out for 2 of these photographs! Two of them were accepted this year, and it's my third year in a row getting one or more photos in. :) Please do let me know which ones you find and make sure to take a picture of them or even a selfie so I can let everyone know!

The Iowa State Fair has started! Make sure to look around at the Photo Salon for at least one of these photographs as one was accepted for display! It's such an honor to get just even one in for display, and I'm glad one made it through. That marks two years with one or more photos in. Hopefully I can keep the streak up! The notification I got didn't identify which one made it in, but if you happen to visit the fair before I do, make sure you tell me! :)

Big, big changes! As some of you may have noticed, I have changed the name of this page to Alex Hoffner Freelance Photography. Why? I have opened my business, Alex Hoffner Photography, which is now my Facebook business page. I invite you to check it out. Does this mean the end of this page? No! :) I promise I will be uploading my artistic work here and on my website (AlexHoffnerPhotography.zenfolio.com under the "Freelance Photography" tab, which will be visible soon).

I would like to take the time tonight to thank all of the veterans who have served. Expecially those who are not with us anymore. They sacrificed their lives for this nation and I am very thankful for the country I live in today. Thank you again for making this country what it is today, we will never forget.

I am excited to announce that I was honored at the 2015 Iowa State Fair Photography Salon with the Superintendent's Choice Award for Youth Black and White for "Reliving the Past." (The B/W Train Picture) This is one of the overall Top Ten Awards! There were 3330 photos submitted by 1070 photgraphers. Of these, 806 photos were selected for exhibition and I was one of only 69 photographers (6%) who had three photos selected for exhibition during the fair. I can't wait for next year!

It surely has been a long time since I've posted. However, I am pleased to announce that three out of the four pictures posted below have been accepted into the 2015 Iowa State Fair Photography Salon! Also, I am getting an award for at least one, hopefully more! Pictures that I have taken these last few months will finally be posted.
