Wait until you notice what makes this moment tender!

I came upon this tender moment at Elkhorn Slough, where a sea otter floats among strands of bull kelp, paws lifted as it cradles its young. At the same time, the otter pup naps, its eyes covered from the sun. The calm water and close embrace reveal a quiet trust between mother and pup.

Funny, I looked at the raw images after the photo shoot and completely missed this one. Only a year later, on a second review, did I discover this image and this wonderful moment. Sometimes, discoveries come from reviewing past captures.

My goal in photography is to find the sacredness of life and the beauty that lives in the world. Through my empathic connection and awareness, my photography seeks to capture life's wonder and mystery. Each moment is unique and special. It embodies more than the physical; it's a window into the spirit world.

Mallard Wing Display: A Quiet Study of Color, Water, and Wild Presence

A drake mallard lifts one wing above the still water, revealing a vivid flash of blue among soft gray feathers. The gentle green reflections and the bird’s poised presence offer a quiet glimpse of nature’s mystery. I took this image at a little lake in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, called Lloyd’s Lake, on an early September morning. I love the background colors and setting for the Drake Mallard.

I couldn’t believe I captured it!

A fleeting meteor streaks across the Milky Way above the silent totem pole and rippling red desert dunes.

Hi there,

A cub looked up — I couldn't look away.

That moment arrived between breaths: wet meadow, low diffused light, and a small wild face intent on a mouthful of grass. I knelt, steady and quiet, feeling the distance between us shrink.

It felt sacred to me.

I named the piece "First Close Encounter" because the scene held both simple curiosity and an old, wild rhythm; the close view lets you meet the animal rather than merely observe it. This close view brings you nearly level with a young life—curious, alert, uncomplicated.

Greens and warm browns keep the frame honest, so the cub's gaze becomes the story, and I chose this subject to remind us how easily wonder can return when we slow down, pay attention, and become aware and alive to our surroundings.

My heart stopped as I captured this moment…as the sapsucker turned and faced outward from the tree trunk. I love this body position for birds.

Ritual of the Ruddy Duck and the Rising Bubbles

Hidden meaning, waiting to be discovered…

I watched a male ruddy duck—electric blue bill against chestnut plumage—as he worked the glassy water, tail cocked and a string of bubbles rising in front of his chest. This bubbling display is part of courtship and communication in shallow ponds, marshes, and freshwater wetlands.

These three frames show the same ritual from two different angles: a low, horizontal view and a head-on look at the bubble cluster. Through these images, step into nature’s quiet rituals—scenes that invite reflection, presence, and connection.
