That moment when you accidentally hit “delete column” instead of “row” and wipe out your entire 8 page road trip document. The one you’ve been working on for at least six months, adding and tweaking, it holds every piece of info from campsites, boondocking & rentals to mileage and hours and stops and random sights.

Ever so grateful for that “UNDO” button.

Yes, I occasionally print and save different versions but it’s been a minute since I’ve printed it. Which is what I just did.

I’m also not close to being done with all the details, so this isn’t the final version. But I THINK I’ve got the general route and most of the lodging figured out. Adding more time does not mean easier planning. It just means having to choose even more things to leave out and save for a future trip.

Also, I’ve been cross-referencing the document I have from my grandparents three week trip in 1986 (the one that inspired this one!) and some of the little motels and cabins they stayed in are no longer in existence, but some of them still are and I fully intend to do then and now comparisons.

Photo from last camping trip in WV, hike at Seneca Rocks 💕 An entire month ago already.

When they tell you not to blink, they aren’t joking.

First road trip of the year. Eight hour drive days don't seem like much when you've done 16+ enough times. South Carolina is pretty this time of year. Seems we missed the azalea blooming, but Congaree didn't disappoint. Put 13 miles in on the first day, a handful the second, and about five/day over the couple we spent in Charleston. As always, the week goes by way too fast and I'm already ready for the next camping trip.
Highlight: Congaree has a really cool boardwalk trail and it's open 24 hours. So you can creep yourself out and go walk around there at night and sit in perfect stillness as the owls hoot from every direction.
Photos from Congaree National Park. More on the substack.

Flashback Friday. 1988-ish and 1996-ish. In honor of the photo booth, and the bff I have been missing for three years now.

Life is short. Love hard. Be present. Nurture what matters.

ETA: I know it’s Thursday. Judge me.

One of my favorite shots from Arches National Park in 2023. If you zoom in you can see all the tiny little dots of people standing around Delicate Arch. We watched the sunrise from here and walked up to the arch after all the crowds left. Looking back it was an epic viewpoint.

It's been a long while since I've had a session that wasn't a family or a senior portrait, and the end of October is always a real game of chance. Today the Universe had my back. Just a little chilly, but gorgeous weather, full fall color, and a good time spent with lovely people.

Grateful for the clients who have become more like family, that I've been blessed to spend time with every year. It's so rewarding to see everyone grow. Wasn't sure how I felt about the addition of the brick walkway in the garden at KG, but I think I dig it.

I have space in November for another session or two, if you can swing a weekday morning or early afternoon. Reach out if you're interested!
