Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota, Florida
Ever since I was a teenager, I have been enamored with Impressionist-style paintings, in particular those by Claude Monet. As an avid lover of nature, I had heard that Sarasota had a beautiful botanical garden and headed out to see what was on display.
When I arrived, the first exhibit I came upon was a spectacular koi pond filled with water lilies. It immediately inspired me to take some shots with the intent of capturing the spirit of Monet's famous water lily series. The wind gave the water a natural shimmer that made it easy to blur and add texture in post-process editing. Shooting in raw gave me the full spectrum of color and latitude I needed to bring the vision to life. This image is part of a set I plan to display at an upcoming show featuring the nature of Southwest Florida.
