Six Mile Cypress Slough in Fort Myers, Florida, is an amazing place to visit. The slough is a natural wetland that stretches for miles. You don't always see much on the surface, but the cypress-based ecosystem filters stormwater and supports wildlife before water flows toward Estero Bay.

These pictures demonstrate the awesomeness of this area. Depending on whether you go during the wet or dry season, you can see alligators, turtles, birds, otters, cypress trees, and yes, cottonmouths (yikes!!).

I took this picture at the Shelby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota Florida. It is part of a collection that I am putting together on Southwest Florida nature.

This piece is a blend of art and photography. After capturing the original image, I refined it in Photoshop, adding brush-stroke textures to create the impression of an oil painting. Printed on Red River fine art and canvas papers, the image takes on added depth and dimension — the final result is striking.

I call this one "Alone in a Crowd". I know, a little cliche but it's nice to begin the week with balloons!

I found this image on an old lost archive from 2009! I have so many great images that I thought were lost forever! This image was taken with a Nikon D90, which at the time was an incredibly excellent 12 Megapixel camera. Not sure where the picture was taken but it was on the day after my birthday and is exactly the kind of image I would take. Just random stuff that piques my interest.

A shot I took of a Spotted Lagoon Jellyfish. I think this is sometimes called a Fire Jellyfish. They originate in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean and are mostly harmless to humans. This is such a beautiful, small creature. The bell can get up to 6 inches in diameter. This one was about an inch total. They swim upside down at times. So cool!
