Some places hold a little piece of our hearts forever. ❤️
I’ve known Jodi since she was just 14 years old, so being able to document her family in a place that means so much to them made this session especially meaningful to me. I have photographed her family over the years several times, and there’s a little piece of our own family history woven into hers, too! My daughter, Mel, had her first real show horse, DJ (show name "Kiss Me Quick"), an Appendix, who actually belonged to Jodi before Mel showed him. It’s funny how life connects us in ways that become part of our stories, too.
The images I’m sharing are just a few I pulled randomly from the session — little glimpses to give you a feel for the place, the family, and the memories being made. The boys climbing on the hay bales, a walk down the dirt road that winds through the farm, and the beautiful landscape as the sun began to set. Nothing overly posed or complicated, just a family in a place that means so much to them.
This is their family farm — a place filled with memories, love, hard work, and generations of meaning. It’s where Jodi’s dad, Jay, raised cattle until his passing four years ago.
I knew Jay, and I knew how much he loved his family, his girls, his cows, and his land. Those things were such a big part of who he was, and standing on this farm, you can feel the love and legacy he left behind. This isn’t just a beautiful piece of property. It’s a part of him that remains — in the land he cared for, the cattle he raised, and the family who continues to cherish this place.
There’s something so meaningful about documenting a family where their story has been written — in the fields they’ve walked, the dirt roads they’ve traveled, and the memories that will always bring them home.
These images may not be a perfect depiction of this beautiful family, but sometimes the most important part of a photograph isn’t perfection. It’s the place, the people, and the stories that make it priceless. I hope that years from now, these images will bring back not only the beauty of this day, but also the love, laughter, and memories that make this farm so special.
Because the best photographs don’t just show us what a place looks like. They remind us what it means. And sometimes, they help us hold on to the people and the pieces of our past that will always be a part of us. ❤️
