🍊 Baltimore Orioles Are Coming Back…

End of April into early May…
you might start seeing flashes of orange again.

Bright. Quick. Easy to miss if you’re not looking.

If you want a better chance of seeing them up close…

Put out:
• Fresh oranges
• Grape jelly (made for birds)
• An oriole feeder

Have all three ready…
and there’s a good chance they’ll stop by.

And when they do—
it’s one of those moments you don’t forget.

Eagles, ospreys… and pelicans, oh my.

And somewhere in the middle of it all…
I felt calm.

Just standing there, watching—
no rush, no noise, no expectations.

Just being.

✨ Slow down… you’re allowed to pause ✨

Not everything needs to be rushed.

Not every moment needs to be filled.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…
is slow down.

Just like this—
quiet water, steady movement, no urgency.

The world keeps going…
but for a moment, you don’t have to.

You’re allowed to pause.
You’re allowed to breathe.
You’re allowed to just be.

Wetland Wednesday đź’™

So much of our local wetlands’ work happens in the in‑between seasons, when everything looks quiet and a little bare. This Canada goose was standing at the edge of a northern Illinois marsh while a few ducks drifted by, all of them just sharing the same stretch of cold, calm water.

I’m drawn to moments like this because they feel honest. The trees are stripped back, the colors are muted, and it might not look “perfect” at first glance—but life is still moving, resting, and getting ready for the next shift.

If you had this kind of view in your home, would you hang it in a hallway, home office, or bedroom?

Sometimes the best part of the day is simply watching the water.

This red-breasted merganser was gliding across a quiet stretch of northern Illinois water, and for a few minutes everything felt completely still—just light, reflections, and the soft wake behind the bird. Those are the small moments I’m always chasing with my camera.

If you’re craving a bit more calm in your space, this image is available as a print and makes a beautiful reminder to slow down and breathe. Would you choose to hang this in a living room, bedroom, or office?

Sometimes it’s the smallest moments that stand out. This butterfly on a marigold was a quick capture, but it’s full of color and life. A little reminder to slow down and notice the details. Prints available—link in bio.
