Join us Thursday May 14, 6:30-8 p.m. to hear Linda Mahoney of Waldoboro speak about her photographic images created in series with titles such as: “Vestiges,” “Sensate Botanicals,” “Liminal,” and “Places I’ve Never Been.”

The Club meets at the Brunswick Naval Aviation Museum in Brunswick and the presentation is free for members of FLCC; $10 for others.

Linda Mahoney has been a view camera photographer and silver gelatin printer for over forty years and only recently began working with a pocket digital camera. She holds an MFA in Photography from The Rhode Island School of Design and a B.A., Magna cm Laude, in Art History from Wellesley College. She assisted and studied with Olive Pierce, Paul Caponigro, William Clift and Minor White. Prior to moving to Waldoboro, she was an instructor of Photography and History of Art at various institutions including Fitchburg State College, The Winsor School, The Art Institute of Boston, New England School of Photography, and Kenyon College. Her work is in numerous collections, including The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Fogg Art Museum, The Boston Public Library, The McMullen Museum of Art, The Davis Museum, The Columbus Museum of Art, and The Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY.

Join FLCC and Brenton Hamilton for an illustrated lecture about photography's early forms. The history of photography is an exciting blend of technological change and the discovery of never-before-tried processes that made images on paper and metal. Brenton will tell the fascinating story of this unique combination of art and science and show historic material with a new context.

Brenton Hamilton is a long time photography educator and studio artist with deep connections to Maine. He has lectured about visual culture and the history of photography for over three decades.
Brenton splits his time between Maine and South Texas, lecturing at the University of Texas in the Lower Rio Grande Valley and leading workshops at Maine Media during the summer season.

The mission of First Light Camera Club is to promote interest in the photographic arts and provide educational opportunities that enable members to achieve their highest potential as photographers.

Speed Date with a Photo Book

First conceived in 2022 by Miami photographer Josh Aronson, the “Photo Book Speed Date” concept is a playful twist on the speed dating trend that first started back in the late ‘90s.
Rather than romantic connections, the event encourages participants to connect over their shared love of the books, whether coffee table books, art books, biographies, manuals, folios or technique-driven tomes, that influence their own photography.
Join us prepared to discuss the pages of your fave photo (or art) book with a fellow enthusiast in rapid-fire 10 minute rounds that are designed to create “brief but meaningful conversations inspired by images, stories, and personal reflections.”

Jackie's presentation will delve into the wonderful world of birds as seen through
the eyes of an artist and animal lover. She will talk about practical matters in the
field as well as techniques that complement each other when making images that
represent the beauty, energy, colors, and character of her subjects.

Jackie will dive into Lightroom and Photoshop to demonstrate how she edits and adds creative elements to enhance her bird imagery. Vivid examples of her work will inspire you to plan your own adventure, whether in an exotic location or in your own backyard.

Jackie has been photographing the natural world with an emphasis on flowers and
birds since high school. Her work has received international acclaim and has been published in numerous online and print magazines.
Jackie is most proud of the supportive global community she founded 11 years ago through her Facebook group, Phlorography – Artistic Floral Photography, which brings together passionate floral photographers from around the world.
Jackie leads photography tours to gardens and birding hotspots in Central and South
America and runs an online academy with classes taught world class photographers.

First Light Camera Club presents
“Two-Eyed Viewing: Getting Beyond What We Think We Know”
A studio visit and presentation with photographer Michael Kolster
Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.

Michael will talk about his newest book “Mongrels of Our Making: The Plastiglomerates of Hawai’i” and its connection to his first book “Take Me to the River.” He will have images, prints and plates from both projects available for viewing.

From the author:
“Mongrels of Our Making” employs stereography to describe plastiglomerates, objects found on a beach on Hawai’i’s Big Island that have been forged from marine-borne plastic and beach lava. These odd artifacts may well become the fossil record of modern life.
In “Take Me to the River” the wet plate collodion process is used to make ambrotypes, unique positives on glass, that speak to the intertwining histories of photography and industrialization along the Androscoggin River (seen from the studio window) and three other waterways on the East Coast.

Michael Kolster is a photographer, Professor of Art at Bowdoin College, and Guggenheim Fellow. His photographs are in numerous collections, including the Huntington Library, American University of Paris, Princeton University, Brown University, Center for Creative Photography, George Eastman Museum, High Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Smith College Museum of Art, and Williams College Museum of Art.
He has exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the American University of Paris, Schroeder Romero and Shredder in New York City, among others.
Kolster holds an MFA at the Massachusetts College of Art, and a certificate from the full-time Documentary Photography program at the International Center of Photography in New York City.

Mark Bowie: “Finding November”

In 2015 Mark Bowie assigned himself a project to photograph November.
Staying close to home in western New England and northern New York State he headed out nearly every day — anytime from predawn to night — making images and recording his impressions.
Mark’s goal was to look beyond the bare trees and gray skies to discover November’s hidden beauty. It became a very personal project, an exercise in the art of seeing and improving his craft.
This incredible presentation reveals the depth and character of the month and the treasures to be found by looking deeper.

Mark Bowie is a professional nature photographer, writer, much sought-after public speaker, and staff instructor for the Adirondack Photography Institute.
He has published three coffee table books on his native Adirondacks and has released two instructional videos, FORESTS: The Art of Photographing Trees & Woods and Multiple Exposures for Maximum Landscapes. He also leads workshops on the art of landscape photography

Join us in the fog as fine art photographer Michele Sons leads us through an exploration of this magical and moody weather phenomenon!
Spanning both art and science, ‘The Art of Fog’ will review types of fog, the meteorological elements necessary for fog formation, and forecasting tools while using inspirational images to demonstrate how fog’s emotional and visual effects on landscape can inject mood into an expressive photograph.
Michele Sons is a fine art landscape and nature photographer, writer, and educator based in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, with clients including National Geographic, The Wilderness Society, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Smokies Life, Eastern National, and other non-profits that serve our nation’s national parks.
Her work tends toward quiet, pared-down, subtle representations of her deep reverence for the natural world. Fog, mist, and soft light are intrinsic elements present in many of her images.
