Kati McCormick has built her entire career around that belief. Nine years on the Augusta School Board. A lifetime of community service. A commitment to showing up with integrity regardless of circumstance.

Meet Kati McCormick.

She is an Executive Assistant, a long-time public servant, and someone who has spent nine years on the Augusta School Board showing up with compassion, clarity, and a practical approach to solving problems. Raised in Unity and proudly rooted in Augusta, she believes progress happens when leaders listen, collaborate, and put people before politics.

Her path was never linear. She once imagined a career in international business but life led her toward something far more meaningful: raising five sons while keeping her skills sharp through volunteer work, eventually building a career that blends organization, communication, and fiscal responsibility.

“I don’t vote right or left. I just vote right and wrong.”

On tough days she thinks about her boys, her community, and the people who trust her to speak up. That has always been enough to keep her going.

Kati is one of twelve extraordinary women featured in this years Working Women Portrait Magazine. All month I am introducing you to each of them, women who showed up, got in front of the camera, and let themselves be seen.

Her goal is simple. Listen well, work hard, and lead with heart.

It was 96 degrees at the Place du Trocadéro. I was sweaty, tired, and very aware of both when we stopped to take this photo.

Standing in front of the Eiffel Tower with my love was a bucket list item for me. And I almost let the heat, and the way I felt in my body that day, be the reason I stayed behind the camera instead of in front of it.

I didn't. We stood there, his arm around me, and we let someone take the picture.

You won't remember later that you were sweaty, or that the dress was sticking to you. You'll remember that you were there, with the person you love, in the place you always wanted to see.

Get in the photo. Not the version of you that has lost the weight or fixed the thing. The one who is actually here, actually living it.

I'm the woman who tells other women to do this. It felt only fair to show you I did it too.

Meet Tara O'Connor.

She is the founder of Little Sleep Wonders LLC, working as a Pediatric Sleep Coach helping families of all ages finally get the rest they need. Her career has spanned childcare, the school system, the medical field, EMT work, and firefighting before she found her calling.

Tara spent more than twenty years misdiagnosed or undiagnosed with multiple health conditions. That experience taught her to advocate fiercely for herself and ultimately for others. A little over two years ago she packed up and moved to Maine alone, seeking a fresh start. The transition brought both growth and heartbreak. She built something new anyway.

Passionate. Empathetic. Kind. Big-hearted. Straightforward. A sleep expert. An advocate. That is how she hopes people see her.
