This week is National Hereditary Cancer Week, the perfect time to talk to your doctor about genetic testing!

Last year I was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome - a hereditary gene mutation that runs in my family that puts us at increased risk for colorectal, uterine, ovarian, stomach, brain, pancreatic, skin and several other types of cancer.

But now that I know about my risk, I have access to more frequent screenings, preventative surgeries, and there are even some Lynch Syndrome vaccines currently in human trials.

If you or any of your family members have had cancer, talk to your doctor or a genetic counselor about getting genetic testing for hereditary cancer genes. And you can even carry one of these gene variants without an obvious family history - we actually had zero Lynch Syndrome cancers in my family at the time I was diagnosed.

Knowledge is power when it comes to your health, and learning about your genetic risk could save your life or the life of someone in your family ♥️
