Last June, Tori and Shawn showed up to their engagement session and told us they didn't know how to pose. Yesterday at the Red Lion Inn was their final word on that subject.

The whole day ran warm and easy. Sun from the first shot to the last, a couple who was up for everything and enough time to wander the entire property for portraits. The pressure was on early, though - at their planning meeting Tori warned Shawn that if he didn't cry at the first look, she was turning around and going back inside. She didn't have to. He teared up at the first look and again during their private vows, which is exactly the kind of day it was.

We'd met with these two so many times before the wedding that by the time it arrived we felt less like a vendor and more like a guest who happened to be holding a camera. Congratulations Tori and Shawn. We can't wait to get the rest of these photos into your hands!

Some families you photograph once. Some become part of the job you look forward to.

We photographed all three of the Folan daughters' weddings - and a few cousins along the way. After that many aisles together, you know a family pretty well. This summer we finally got everyone in front of the camera at the same time. Mom and dad, all three daughters, their husbands and the grandkids who've shown up since those wedding days.

There's something about seeing a family grow across years of photographs. The wedding galleries were chapters. This one's the family portrait that ties them together.

If it's been a few years since your whole family was in one frame, take this as your sign. The group only gets bigger and the photos only get more valuable.

Wedding coordinators watch photographers work every single weekend. So when one books you for her best friend's wedding, that means something.

Mindy runs the Tiffany Ballroom - the first venue that ever put us on a preferred vendor list, years ago. When her best friend Grace got engaged, Mindy sent her our way. No portfolio review, no comparison shopping. Just "this is who you want."

Grace and Karl's day at Five Bridge Inn was everything a wedding should be - a handfasting on the lawn, alpacas in the portraits, a seating chart nobody will ever forget and a surprise dance that caught its guest of honor completely off guard and had the whole room in tears (us included).

Coordinators see it all. The referral that comes from someone who's watched you work a hundred rooms is the one we're proudest of.

Julia and Luke got married Friday. Ceremony at St. Paul’s in Hingham, reception at The Red Lion Inn - a venue I’m a preferred vendor at and shoot constantly, and it still doesn’t get old.

It was a full, traditional Catholic ceremony, and both the priest’s homily and the maid of honor’s speech landed on the same word for Luke - enamored. He’s been that way since the night they met, when her maid of honor brought her to a family party.

Julia’s answer to almost anything is “I’m down.” She brought that energy all day. Luke’s quieter and steadier, and it works.

Congrats Julia and Luke.

The white jacket was the first clue this would be a good frame.

Hold back. Let the garden fill in. Wait until the hands find each other — hers at his lapel, his settled at her waist. The faces weren’t the point. The ease between them was.

It poured the entire drive. Then we walked into this.

Elise got ready at her parents’ house — which happens to be right near Roger Williams Park Botanical Center — so because they did a first look, we had time to stop there before the ceremony. Palms, olive trees, light that made zero sense given the morning everyone had just survived.

By the time the ceremony was over, the sky was clear enough to shoot every bridal portrait at Grand View Luxury Waterfront Wedding Venue outside too.

A first look doesn’t just change the timeline. Sometimes it changes the whole day.
