Sunset to Moonrise - the evening looked so promising at first with a spectacular Sunset looking west towards Portland with spectacular atmosphere and vivid colors. Then we turned around to find Mt Hood fully obscured and our hopes of seeing the full moon rise behind the mountain felt lost. We decided to stick around for a few minutes just in case the low clouds disappeared as quickly as they came. While we did miss most of the emergence event, we could were able to see the moon dancing between the clouds for a few minutes before fully emerging along with the mountain. Definitely an evening to remember out at Larch Mountain!

Just before the moon was expected to emerge from behind Mt Hood, some low clouds drifted in to obscure the view. We decided to hang out for a few more minutes to see if it might clear out. This timelapse shows why it pays not to give up too soon. What an unexpected evening out at Larch Mountain!

Lost Moonrise - what a magical evening out at Lost Lake last night watching the moon rise behind Mt Hood. Thanks to Tommy Houston and Melissa 💃 Adventure | Nature Photographer for joining me on this uncertain adventure! We weren’t sure the clouds would keep away long enough to see the moon, but thankfully conditions held this time. We were even treated with a bit of wispy lenticular cloud formation for a bit🥰 Hope you get a chance to see the full moon this week!
