Everyone wants to see Smugglers' Notch in October. Almost no one sees it like this.

I got there at first light to beat the crowds, and for a little while the road belonged to the leaves.

It’s almost time. 🍂

These were taken on one of those fall mornings that felt impossibly quiet — fog drifting across the water, the first light catching the trees, and almost no one around.

Every year around this time, I start getting excited about what New England is about to become.

I have no idea what I’ll find out there this fall. And I think that’s my favorite part.
