Finding more examples of work for Motor Trend. These were in the email newsletters.
If you're interested in the process of shooting stills on set and understanding how TV episodes get done, here's been my experience with it. A bit of a novella....
The film crew is either on a single location or follows the hosts as they road trip. Each of the episodes I was on was a full day, outdoors, pretty well coordinated and scheduled out. There's a team of camera operators, sound engineers, director(s), a production assistant, a drone operator, and an amazing producer who makes sure we're on time, we get breaks, and always gets the best snacks. In one instance, the crew was super DIY and scrappy, playing multiple roles. Still photography is secondary to the takes so there's a lot of hanging back and waiting, coordinating with the director when I can grab photos between scenes. While waiting, I'm usually wandering around scouting or getting environment and detail shots. I approach it like an editorial shoot, mentally making a note when I'm composing that I leave room for the show logo. The creative team takes my final edit and selects images to use as tiles in the app, the website, email newsletter, and on social media.
What I'm most grateful for is that someone else is handling all the stuff that is usually an added burden for me or gives me anxiety, the stuff that I'm used to taking on myself in all my other work...like travel, booking accommodations, taking breaks, scheduling, food. Massive breath of air to just show up and make photographs. And of course HAVE FUN and spend time with some super talented creatives.
