There’s a powerful kind of peace out here, watching a storm roll in over the plains. This is the Melville Lutheran Church. Generations of storms have rolled over this place, and it has stood to shelter those that need it since 1914 when it was built by Norwegian immigrants, who first organized in 1885. This makes them the oldest Lutheran congregation in the state of Montana. With the Crazy Mountains as the backdrop for this beautifully built Gothic style building, I can imagine the beautiful days it has seen. We escaped to this sanctuary last night, and well worth the drive it was to witness the lightning later on as we drove home, and the fresh smell of rain after the weeks of 100 degree heat.
