Tyler and his family(who are now like family to me) were one of the first families to ever book me when I started my business 15 years ago. I have been fortunate enough to take the Erving's family photos once a year since then(and his sister, Madi's senior photos). I can't thank all of you families who have trusted me over the years(especially the Erving Family) to take photos of your kids as they literally grow up each year. Also, this is proof that once you hire me as your photographer, you just can't get rid of me😁.

Like so many others, I don’t even know how to begin when trying to put words to the tragic loss our community suffered Sunday evening. My heart breaks for Adam, his parents, Erica + her family.

I have known Adam for more than 15 years, and I had the incredible privilege of photographing his and Megan’s wedding last October. I also know Erica(Landon and Charlotte’s mom), and her brother Kevin(their uncle), who was a classmate and is friend of mine. I didn’t know Megan or the kids particularly well, although Landon was a classmate of one of my daughters. But after photographing a wedding day, and all of the little moments, you can learn a lot about them. Here are some things I remember from that day.

I know that Megan treasured the little boutique Owen built for her out of Legos to carry down the aisle.

I know how she beamed with joy and pride as she walked arm-in-arm with Owen, carrying her flowers, toward Adam at the altar.

It was a beautiful autumn day. The sun shone directly on them as they exchanged vows, and at different moments, both Adam and Megan wiped away tears. Their children watched intently, surrounded by a small circle of family and friends.

Throughout the entire day, it was clear that Adam and Megan cared far more about the people than the things that can sometimes take over a wedding day.

As we made our way to the reception, I watched Megan greet everyone with a hug as they arrived—and give them another hug before they left. But these weren’t just quick, obligatory hugs. They were intentional. A big squeeze. Eyes closed. The kind of hug that made you feel like you mattered.

Megan was the kind of person who treasured people and made them feel seen.

And through the people they surrounded themselves with, it was clear that Adam and Megan had built a beautiful community around their family. They were surrounded by good people, just like themselves. I see it all the time at weddings I shoot, wonderful people tend to attract other wonderful people.

Megan’s parents were incredibly welcoming, and Landon, Owen, Charlotte and Chloe were some of the sweetest, kindest, most well-behaved kids I’ve had the pleasure of photographing.

I got to watch Landon run around and play with some of the younger kids(says a lot when you are the oldest and still make time for the young kids). I watched Owen beam as he held a baby. I watched Charlotte and Chloe be goofy as they ate their food together and played in their beautiful dresses.

Everyone was smiling that day.

It truly was a beautiful celebration of two families coming together.

It isn’t very often that I get a photo with the couple at a wedding, but my friend Gretta happened to be at the reception because she was good friends with Megan. At some point, she asked if I wanted her to take my camera and snag a photo of Megan and me.

Of course I said yes.

Megan put her arm around me and gave me a squeeze, too.

How lucky was I?

Then Gretta took a photo of Megan, Barb and me.

I never could have known that I would come to treasure that photograph in a way I never expected.

I'm so incredibly grateful that I got to document their love, their family, their friendships(especially those hugs), and the way they made the people around them feel.

If you are able, please consider helping the surviving parents by donating to the GoFundMe accounts that have been established for them(links provided in Q2 news article) . Every bit of support can make a difference as these families navigate an unimaginable loss.

Please keep all of them in your hearts and please attend the city Vigil tonight(August 27th) at 8pm at Veteran's Park.
