The salty air, the endless horizon, the sparkle of sunlight dancing across the water… it’s a reminder that some of life’s greatest treasures are found in moments of simple beauty.

A decade ago, this sunset stopped me in my tracks. Today, it reminds me that no matter what challenges life brings, there is always light beyond the clouds. Some sunsets don’t mark an ending—they remind us to look forward to a new day with gratitude and hope.

I’m not the biggest fan of geese but I will say this about them, they live, move and work as a team whether in flight or swimming across the lake! Since I stopped to take a few photos tonight, I thought I should give them some credit for also being entertaining!

Sometimes it’s surreal standing lakeside in the darkness, hoping for a glimpse of the Northern Lights, only to realize the real show is already happening. The stars above, the reflections on the water, and the quiet beauty of the place we call home remind me just how fortunate we are. ✨🌌💙

Last year — and honestly, most years around this time — I return to my favorite place on earth after being away for several months… Yosemite National Park.
Even now, I feel its pull, though I haven’t yet made my way back this year. I hope that changes very soon.
There’s just something about Yosemite that restores my soul in a way no other place can. John Muir described it perfectly:
‘It is by far the grandest of all the special temples of Nature I was ever permitted to enter.’
Every time I return, I understand those words a little more.

Spending my birthday in Yosemite Valley and I find something I had never before seen, thanks to a long time Yosemite Tram driver named Bill. Standing at Valley View, turn around and here is Widow's Tears, also known as Silver Strand Falls! It drops over 1000 feet down a series of ledges. Bill pointed this out to me, after a very friendly conversation and said "Happy Birthday Janet!" It was his gift to me! Made my day! 5/6/19

Close my eyes and I’m right back here—the sound, the scent, the feeling. Powerful and peaceful all at once. Grateful for the memory… and counting the days until I return.

I happened to look out the window this evening and caught this beautiful display of light just in time… talk about perfect timing.
Not sure there are ever quite the right words for moments like this, but wow… nature really knows how to show off.
Good thing I didn’t blink.
Grateful I didn’t miss it—my eyes saw it, but my heart definitely felt it.

Even while soaking up Arizona’s winter warmth, my heart wanders home. Yosemite is never far from my thoughts… and this image from 9 years ago today feels like just yesterday.
