Finally took a trip over to Block Island. It's a mellow version of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Still a tourist trap. Last weekend of May, 2026 the ocean temperature is somewhere between 54 and 58 F. Still a little too chilly for swimming. I think that this is another "one and done" location!

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, The Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys hosted a photo charter along route 15 in Philadelphia (Girard Avenue) from the Callowhill Depot. This charter was originally supposed to take place on the Saturday before Super Bowl Sunday. However, there has been some significant snowfall in the Northeast United States this winter. For safety reasons, it was decided to postpone until a more likely snow and ice-less day! These charters are, in essence, fundraisers to complete restoration work on numerous historical trolleys or trams in the US located at various museums.

Photos from an early November 2021 photo excursion on the Northern Central Railroad ("Steam Into History") out of New Freedom, PA (South of York, PA). This is the railway line that Abraham Lincoln traveled to Gettysburg to give his famous Gettysburg Address. Lincoln's funeral train also traveled the same route. There were some character actors in Civil War era costumes that posed alongside the train. If you are in the area, you can ride this train as well.

The Cumbres & Toltec is a narrow gauge scenic railroad that operates between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado, crossing between both states at least 11 times in 68 miles! The railway, along with the Durango & Silverton in Colorado are what remains of an extensive network of narrow gauge tracks that served the area and was part of the Denver & Rio Grande. The Friends of The Cumbres & Toltec ran a charter for steam locomotive 168 on Sept 25, 2021. Fortunately, I was able to attend. Here are some of my favorite photos. The aspens were changing colors in the higher elevations.
