I have much more to share with you from my Fall fashion shoot with "Curvy Josie's Fashion", but I wanted to use these bad ass images to make a point about light and also pushing comfort zones. If you book a session with me, you might hear me talk about finding "good light" or seeking out shade. That's because shade or filtered light is the most flattering light on our skin. Bright sunlight can be harsh. That's also why photographers seek out golden hour, or the softer sunlight right before sunset. But sometimes, it's really fun to step outside of that filtered light comfort zone and stand in the sun! That's exactly what I did for this series of pictures, and I adore the results! I put Josie in direct sun because I wanted to capture the full glory of that red tree which would have been washed out if I put her in the shade. I'm obsessed with the moody/contrasty and, appropriate-to-the-season witchieness of the these shots. I may not make the same choice for a close up shot where her face is more the point of the photo. But it works great in a drama shot like this. Also, for comparison, the images where the tree is a little more orange were taken with her in the shade. It totally changes the tone of the image. Still amazing though. Isn't photography fun!?
