Welcome sweet Kira 🌈💕

Watching Eliana and her husband, Collin, welcome their sweet rainbow baby girl was everything.

A few days before her due date, labor began to pick up. We had planned to meet at my studio, but on my way there, Collin called and said they were heading to the hospital instead. Thankfully, their midwife was able to call ahead and get Momma settled right into a room.

Baby girl looked beautiful on the monitor, and Momma was laboring so well. This labor came on hard and fast though. There wasn't much of a break between contractions, and every contraction seemed to make her nauseous. She worked so hard through labor, spending time in the tub, trying different positions, and doing everything she could to stay comfortable. Eventually, she decided an epidural was the right choice for her, and after it was placed, she finally got some much-needed relief and rest.

A few hours later, it was time.

Sweet Kira made her entrance into the world in one of the most incredible ways. Momma's water never broke during labor, and baby was born with her waters still intact until her entire head was out. It was such a beautiful reminder that no two births are ever the same.

But birth always keeps us on our toes.

Immediately after Kira was born, her umbilical cord detached from the placenta, something called a cord avulsion. Thankfully, our incredible midwife recognized it instantly and acted right away. Because Kira wasn't pinking up as quickly as expected, the NICU team was called to evaluate her and draw labs.

As it turns out, Kira was doing just fine.

Once the placenta was delivered, we discovered Momma had a velamentous cord insertion, where the cord vessels traveled through the membranes before reaching the placenta. It likely explained why the cord avulsion occurred and made us even more thankful for the quick thinking and skill of an experienced birth team.

One minute your heart is racing, and the next you're watching two parents completely fall in love with the little girl they've been waiting so long to meet.

Welcome to the world, sweet Kira. 💕🌈

✨ Happy International Homebirth Day ✨

There is just something so special about welcoming your baby in the place you feel most comfortable... home. ❤️

Today is all about celebrating birth choices and recognizing that every family deserves the right to decide where they bring their baby into the world. Whether that is at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital, your birth, your choice.

I have had the honor of photographing several home births, and I can honestly say there is something incredibly peaceful about watching a family welcome their baby surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, and the people they love most.

Well this is a first...."Clucked around and now we got an egg in the incubator!" It was pretty much all giggles trying to chase after chickens and toddlers! Can't wait to meet this little peep in October!!

Happy 7 days earth side little Elizah! Remember how your momma said, "I don't wanna be here until Tuesday trying to have her." Well your momma fought so dang hard! She endured 36 hours in the hospital being induced and had pitocin almost maxed out and still refuse an epidural, is shear super powers!

Thank you for the few who give all to protect our country. Wishing you a blessed Memorial Day.

Home birth isn’t about “doing it differently.” For many families, it’s about doing it intentionally. 🤍

For some parents, home is where they feel safest, most supported, and most empowered. It is a space where labor can unfold naturally, surrounded by familiar comforts, chosen support people, and the freedom to listen to their bodies.

Birth was designed with incredible instincts. The swaying, the movement, the quiet moments, the need for dim lights, rest, water, touch, and connection… these are not things we have to teach our bodies. Often, they are already there.

Home birth can offer:

✨ A familiar environment
✨ Freedom of movement and comfort measures
✨ Personalized care and support
✨ Space to labor instinctively
✨ A calm transition for baby and family

Home birth is not for everyone and that is okay. Every family deserves informed choices and support in finding the birth experience that feels right for them.

These moments are a beautiful reminder that birth can be powerful, peaceful, and deeply instinctive. 🤍

After a month long hiatus of computer issues.......I feel I'm FINALLY on the mend! This momma was so unsure of doing her maternity photos and waited until 39 and 3 days to have them done! Well the weather did play an issue. Thankfully we got them done because three days later she had her sweet little Kira!
