This shot has quickly become one of my all time favorites. Finishing up a family session shortly before and immediately getting some shots of a heron close by, the hungry and patient bird decided to enter my shot of the waterfall. I'm thrilled to have captured this and will be putting a print on one of my walls.

Great Blue Heron necks are not structured like a traditional curved spine. They have a specialized modification to their sixth neck vertebra that acts like a spring, allowing them to rapidly launch their head forward to spear fish or grab prey from a distance

My client spotted this gorgeous Great Blue Heron right at the tail end of our photo session recently. I decided to stick around for a while just watching and taking photos of it. Landed some really awesome shots that I'm looking forward to share soon.
