ISO of a new wellness therapy option that gets outside and is low impact? My recent photoshoot was a combo of headshots and business branding for Jack Bruce. Not only is Jack simply an easy going, nice guy, he is also the "Director of Wellness for the Atlanta office of IMA Financial Group and founder of WellBirds, an initiative dedicated to sharing the wellbeing benefits of birding and nature through writing, speaking, and community engagement. With more than two decades of experience in human resources and as a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor, he has trained hundreds and regularly speaks to employers, HR professionals, and community groups on mental health and nature-based wellbeing. An active advocate for the connection between nature and health, he serves with several national organizations focused on Nature as Medicine and leads accessible birding outings designed to make birding available to people of all abilities."
Why birding? What are the benefits? Well, Jack can tell you more when you meet, but in his own words:
"Birding can become a form of therapy because it restores energy, reduces stress, sharpens focus, and creates space for reflection, helping people return to their daily lives healthier and more balanced. Rather than being self-indulgent, time spent birding can be a powerful form of intentional self-care that strengthens mental, physical, social, and spiritual wellbeing, allowing people to show up more fully for their families, work, and communities."
What's not to like? Thoroughly enjoyed my morning photo session with Jack in McDaniel Farm park a week or so ago; and am super pleased how they came out.
