Life in the backyard.
As the days grow warmer wildlife is most active in the early morning and later in the evening. Here's our local whitetail deer up and about as the sun sets below the mountains to the west. Winter coats are shed and the bucks are growing their antlers covered by protective velvet.

A few images from around the house. Whitetail are in their summer finest and wildflowers are blooming.

One of the most efficient predators on earth, the African Wild Dog or Painted Hunting dog (Lycaon pictus) . The success rate of these dogs is 70% to 90% compared to only 30% to 40% for lions. The WIld Dog is native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Approximately 6600 remain in the wild in some 39 sub-populations. The largest numbering less than 250 individuals. Packs range from 5 to 20 animals but packs of 60 have been recorded.

The pack interactions are amazing to observe as are the hunting strategies. Each animals markings are unique and the patterns are quite stunning. Wild Dogs are one of the very few canines to have never been domesticated even though numerous attempts have been made. Enjoys these images from 20 years of journeying to Africa.
