Photographic Beginnings - I began shooting pictures when I was about sixteen years old. I purchased a used 35 mm Topcon camera at a garage sale. The camera was a little quirky, and every so often the mirror would stick and ruin the picture I was taking. I learned how to use the camera and began shooting any subject I could find. Since that time, I have been taking photographs wherever I go, and every shot is still an adventure. Why Photography - To me, photography is about finding out about people and using my camera to bring out something unique in each picture I take. I try to find the special look in a person’s eye or a smile that is there and needs to surface. I am often able to capture an image that shows a person’s personality and their real sense of character. Pictures and Prints Make a Difference - In this digital age, everyone has a camera and can take photographs wherever they are. These digital images are often shared for a moment and then are gone. Photographic prints can make those memories last and can be shared with anyone every time they walk into your home or office. Equipment - I use professional grade cameras, lenses, and lighting to capture your images and memories. I carry backup equipment in the event of unforeseen equipment circumstances. I use professional grade software to process the digital images and can add special effects or process the photographs as black and white photographs. I process the final images for common aspect ratios and create any special image size or quality you require. Studio - I have a fully equipped and professional studio with a variety backdrops, furniture, and props ready to capture your image and that special look you want. Photographers - I am the primary photographer for all shoots and events. I have a small cadre of trusted assistant photographers that I use if the shoot or event warrants the need. I can also provide assistant photographers if requested. Prints Services - Ken’s Portrait Photography carries a wide selection of products designed to showcase and preserve your families’ memories. All prints from Ken’s Portrait Photography are printed by a professional photo lab on professional photo printing equipment for optimal results. The photo lab uses Kodak Professional Supra Endura photographic paper with Luster finish. The luster finish has a slight sheen and an ultra-fine texture coupled with accurate skin tone reproduction, making this paper and texture ideal for preserving and sharing your memories. Other finishes are available upon request. Each high-quality print is mounted to single weight mat board giving your printed photographs the stability and durability expected of heirloom quality photographs. Image Preservation - Image preservation is an essential responsibility of any photographer. All of my images are captured and stored in RAW format. This unprocessed and uncompressed digital format is best for capturing and storing images because it preserves the highest level of photographic detail. These RAW photographic files are then used to create both low-resolution and high-resolution JPEG digital images for delivery to you. The original RAW format images are stored on a backup server and on DVD disk for permanent photographic catalog storage. The images stored in the manner are available should you have a future need for your photographic memories. If you need to replace a precious photograph or album we will have the ability to reproduce your memories. Deliverables - All of my images are captured and stored in RAW format. These RAW photographic files are then used to create both Special delivery of images by USB drive is available upon request. Satisfaction - My goal is to successfully capture your photographic memories and provide you with high-quality images and print products that you are satisfied with. The first step in meeting your photographic needs is to understand and define your needs and expectations. An initial consultation usually occurs where together we outline the specific photographic services to be delivered. Together we outline when these services will be delivered, where the services will be delivered, how you will receive your processed images, and discuss any other details that are important or necessary. Together we execute a contract which outlines our agreed upon terms of service. Other Details - I have liability insurance for myself, my business, and my equipment. I also have trusted a group of talented photographers which I can call upon should some unforeseen emergency prevent me from fulfilling the terms of our contract.

What a beautiful autumn day for a wedding at Oak Mountain! 🍁🚠❤️

Surrounded by the spectacular fall colors of the Adirondacks, Melissa and Mike took separate gondola rides to the top of Oak Mountain, where they exchanged vows in a beautiful mountaintop ceremony.

Along the way, they waved to their guests as they made their way up the mountain to join the celebration. After the ceremony, the newlyweds shared a kiss and rode back down together, this time with a “Just Married” sign on their gondola!

Beautiful fall foliage, breathtaking mountain views, a little adventure, and a lot of love. What a perfect beginning to their next chapter together!

❤️ Samantha & Aidan | Wedding Sneak Peeks ❤️

What a wonderful day celebrating Samantha and Aidan's wedding yesterday in Danbury, Connecticut!

A beautiful couple, genuinely in love, surrounded by family and friends who brought so much warmth, laughter, and joy to their celebration. From the quiet moments together to the fun and energy of their wedding party, it was a day filled with wonderful memories.

We spent part of the afternoon capturing portraits at the beautiful Tarrywile Park in Danbury, CT, where the fall colors provided a perfect backdrop for their wedding photographs.

The celebration continued at Anthony's Lake Club (), a beautiful venue overlooking the lake. A special thank you to the team at Anthony's Lake Club for their wonderful hospitality, attention to detail, and for providing such a welcoming setting for this special day. The lakeside views are absolutely beautiful!

There’s something special about a wedding day filled with genuine smiles, quiet moments together, and the people who mean the most.

Melissa + Mike | Oak Mountain 🍂🏔️

What a way to experience an Adirondack fall wedding.

Melissa and Mike were married yesterday atop Oak Mountain in Speculator, surrounded by mountains covered in peak fall color. Even getting to the ceremony was part of the experience: a beautiful gondola ride up the mountain, watching the Adirondack foliage unfold below us along the way.

And then we reached the top.

Mountain views in every direction, brilliant autumn color, and Melissa and Mike surrounded by the people they love. It was one of those settings where you almost have to remind yourself to stop for a moment and simply take it all in.

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at for creating such a memorable experience and for being so great to work with.

And a special thank you to my team, , for assisting and providing additional photography throughout the day, and , for capturing the day on video. Having a team that anticipates moments and works seamlessly together makes all the difference.

Do you need one wedding photographer—or a full creative team?

It’s a question that has become more complicated as couples have more choices for documenting their wedding: a lead photographer, second photographer, videographer, wedding content creator, or some combination of them.

But more cameras don’t automatically mean better coverage.

In the latest episode of In Focus, I talk about what each person on a wedding creative team actually does, why those roles are different, and how photographers, videographers and content creators can work together without turning your wedding into a production.

I also look at one of the questions I hear more often: If everyone is carrying a camera, couldn’t one person simply do more than one job?

A few sneak peeks from Cassandra & Bruce’s beautiful wedding yesterday at Rustic Ties in Dolgeville, NY. ❤️

What a wonderful couple to spend the day with. Cassandra and Bruce were so much fun to work with and photograph; the kind of couple who made it easy to capture moments that felt relaxed, natural, and completely their own.

And what a setting for a wedding. From the rustic barn and pond to the rolling fields and mountain views, Rustic Ties gave us so many beautiful places to create photographs throughout the day. Even as fall is just beginning to make its appearance in the hills, the scenery was spectacular.

Nicole & Josh | Rutland, Vermont ❤️

What a wonderful day yesterday celebrating Nicole and Josh in beautiful Rutland, Vermont.

These two were such a fun, loving couple to spend the day with. There was so much laughter, so much joy, and so many moments that simply felt like them.

And then there was the fishing pole. Nicole’s dad brought one along because Nicole and Josh both love to fish and love being outdoors. Of course, we had to put it to good use, and it led to some of my favorite moments of the day.

Why do I still love being a wedding photographer?

Photographing a wedding is a lot of work. There are conversations and planning before the wedding, hours of being completely present on the wedding day, and then the work of turning thousands of photographs into the story of that day.

And I revel in it.

I love getting to know my couples. I love helping people become comfortable in front of my camera. I love watching for the moments that happen between the things we planned. And I love knowing that the photographs I create today will become memories that mean even more years from now.

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit lately, so I decided to write about why I love being a wedding photographer.

Wedding photography takes time, energy, creativity, and trust, and I revel in it. Here’s why the people, connections, and memories make this work so meaningful to me.

A wedding day starts long before the wedding day.

Yesterday I met Cassandra and Bruce at Rustic Ties Wedding & Event Center in Dolgeville to walk through the venue and start thinking about their wedding day together.

I love doing venue walkthroughs with my couples. We’re not trying to plan every photograph in advance; some of the best moments on a wedding day are the ones nobody could have planned. Instead, I’m learning.

I learn how the couple sees their day. We talk about what’s important to them, walk through where different parts of the celebration will happen, look at the light and backgrounds, and discover places that might become part of their photographs. By the time I arrive on the wedding day, the venue already feels familiar and we already share some ideas about what we might create together.

And Rustic Ties gave us plenty to think about. The beautiful barn, open fields, pond, fences, wooded areas and distant views provide so many possibilities for photographs. The interior has all of the warmth and character you hope to find in a rustic wedding venue, too.

Just as important, the people at Rustic Ties were welcoming and incredibly helpful as we explored the property. You can tell they care about creating a great experience for their couples.

It was wonderful spending some time there with Cassandra and Bruce. Now, when their wedding day arrives, we won’t be starting with a blank canvas; we’ll already know the landscape. The rest will come from everything that happens on the day.
