When the model was clearly not the most willing subject.

No interest in posing. No interest in cooperating. Just sitting there, wondering why everyone was making such a big fuss.

And somehow… still managed to give me a pretty great portrait.

Sometimes, you don’t need a willing model. You just need the right moment.

Five years later, I got to photograph Bison again.

Last week, I was at Raffles Hotel Sentosa for a session with this big, handsome Frenchie. Bison is huge, incredibly friendly, and just as lovable as I remembered him.

It was especially meaningful to be able to update his photos after five years. Dogs change, grow older, and their personalities evolve — which is why I love having the opportunity to create new portraits that capture them at different stages of their lives.

Raffles Hotel Sentosa is also a pretty amazing place for a pet photoshoot. The villas are spacious, each with its own private pool, and the rooms are wonderfully soundproof — perfect for a relaxed stay with your furkid.

Five years on, and Bison is still a star in front of the camera.

Four award-winning images.

Something I'm incredibly proud of.

I was honoured to receive 4 awards at the International Pet Photography Awards, a competition dedicated entirely to pet photographers from around the world.

Out of these four images, I'm especially proud of the photo of the four kittens. Anyone who owns cats—or has ever tried photographing them—will know just how difficult this shot was to pull off! Getting all four kittens to sit together and look at the camera at the same time is no small feat. It took plenty of patience, perfect timing, and a little bit of luck. 😊

This recognition means so much because my work was judged alongside photographers who share the same passion for capturing the personalities, emotions, and beauty of animals. To have my images recognised on this international stage is an achievement I'll always cherish.

Every portrait represents patience, preparation, and the trust that pet owners place in me to create memories they'll treasure for a lifetime.

To everyone who has entrusted me with photographing your beloved companions, thank you for allowing me to tell their stories through my lens.

This milestone motivates me to keep pushing my craft and creating portraits that celebrate the incredible bond between people and their pets. Here's to many more unforgettable moments.

Some dogs make you work for the shot.

Penny wasn't one of them.

This beautiful Sheltie had one of the best sit-and-stays I've ever seen. Whether she was standing proudly on a rock or patiently waiting for the cue to start running, she held every pose with unwavering focus. That gave me the freedom to concentrate on composition, lighting, and creating the images I had in mind.

Ironically, Penny made me work even harder.

Because she was so disciplined, I ended up taking far more photos than I normally would. And since I genuinely enjoy editing my work, I happily spent even more time going through every frame. When your subject gives you so many great moments to choose from, picking the best ones becomes the hardest part.

While shooting at a dog's birthday party yesterday, I came across this wonderful "filter."
Simply apply one of these magical stickers to your dog, and it instantly causes smiles in every hooman. Side effects may include excessive laughter, uncontrollable photo-taking, and an irresistible urge to tell your dog they're the cutest thing ever.

Wulala.

Probably the coolest name I've ever heard for a dog.

At 16 years old, Wulala is blind, so getting eye contact with the camera wasn't easy. Thankfully, he loves his treats, and with a little patience and plenty of snacks, we managed to capture these moments.

Despite his age, he's still standing strong, curious, and full of determination. Age may have taken his eyesight, but it certainly hasn't taken his spirit.

Portraits like these are a reminder that every senior dog has a lifetime written across their face and grey curl, deserves to be remembered.

Winning awards is always an honour, but this one feels especially meaningful.

I'm incredibly grateful to have received a Bronze Award at the Golden Shot Photography Awards with this portrait of Colbie.

At first glance, it's simply a portrait of a dog. But to me, it's a portrait of resilience.

When I photograph an animal, I'm not just looking for good light, sharp focus, or the perfect expression. I'm looking for a story—something that allows a single frame to say more than words ever could.

What was first thought to be a cataract turned out to be eye cancer. Colbie lost his eye, endured further complications with a prosthetic, and eventually found comfort again after it was removed.

His missing eye isn't the subject of this photograph. His quiet strength is.

This award is a reminder of why I love portrait photography. A photograph has the power to preserve more than how someone looks—it can capture who they are and everything they've overcome.

Potato, such a photogenic corgi.

Some dogs just seem to know exactly where the camera is, and Potato is definitely one of them. From those bright eyes to that cheeky tongue hanging out, every stride was packed with personality. Running straight towards the lens with ears up and a huge smile, it's the kind of moment every pet parent loves to see.

This is why I always encourage action shots during a session. They capture not just how a dog looks, but who they are—the excitement, the joy, and the little quirks that make them unique. Looking at this photo, you can almost hear the happy paws racing towards you.
