Standing on land, looking at the boat and thinking: how the hell do we live in that thing, completely shaking around? 😂🫨

Well, it’s definitely not always like this, but this time it was crazyyy. 🌊

There was no better place to anchor and we wanted to go on a hike the next day.

Well… in the end it got so crazy that we could barely sleep. 😂 So with the first light, we escaped and moved on.

And I think that’s one of the contradictions of boat life. It’s amazing that we can take our home to all these beautiful places. But at the same time, you can never really just settle down somewhere. The weather can change, the wind can pick up, the swell can roll in… and suddenly you have to leave, even when you’d actually love to stay.

But that’s part of the freedom too ⛵️🌊

9 years ago, I was here in Ibiza with my family and having no idea where life would take me.

Now I’m back in the exact same place — but this time, with my sailboat, my home, and a completely different life ⛵️

It’s strange to look at that 16-year-old girl and realise how much has changed. I definitely dreamed a lot back then. And somehow, I never really stopped. 🙃

But I also learned that dreams don’t just happen. There’s a lot of work, uncertainty, sacrifice and courage behind the life you choose to build. And honestly, this life isn’t always beautiful sunsets and turquoise water. There are stressful days, things breaking, money worries, changing plans and a lot of uncertainty.

And that’s okay.

Because maybe the point isn’t to build the perfect life. Maybe it’s to figure out what kind of imperfect life feels right for you.

You might dream of stability, a home on land, a predictable income and knowing where you’ll be tomorrow. And maybe I dream of waking up somewhere new, adapting to the weather and having the sea outside my door.

Neither is better.

Just don’t spend your life living someone else’s dream. 🤍

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities that made it possible for me to pursue mine — and I hope everyone gets the chance to go after theirs, however big or small.

And to that 16-year-old girl:
I wish you could see where we ended up.
I'm proud of you.
Please stay forever that wild child.

So… we had a crazy idea 😂 ...
We recently started getting into freediving and realised we needed some weight blocks.

But then we looked at all the old ballast blocks lying around on our boat and thought:

Why buy them if we can make them ourselves? 😂

So we took the SUP to the beach, collected some firewood and made a mould out of wet sand using one of our existing weights as a template.

Then came the part where we weren't entirely sure this was actually going to work… 👀

We made a fire, put the "heavy metal" in the pan and waited.

And waited.

And waited. 😂

Until suddenly… it started melting. 🔥

And from there, it was piece after piece until we had our own homemade freediving weights.

The next day we sanded them down a little, put them on the belt and… they were ready to go! 🤿

Probably one of the most random things we've made on this boat 😂

but for us always important:

use what you have. buy only what you really need.

Better for the budget and better for the environment. 🌱
.. and it was a fun DIY project and experiment 🤠

the reality of living on a sailboat ⛵️ - there’s a lot more work behind this lifestyle than you might think 🙃

having a boat is basically a never-ending project. something breaks, something needs maintenance, more projects, there's always a full to-do list…

and then there’s also the laptop work — giving online lessons as a teacher, editing videos, social media, organising boat stuff, ordering parts… 💻

we try to do almost everything ourselves, keep our expenses low and live a simple life.
because for us, the money is much better spent on keeping our little home — and this lifestyle — going than on going out for dinner, getting our nails done, shopping or whatever.
we only buy what we really need… and most of the time, it’s for the boat. 🤪

it’s definitely not an endless sailing holiday.

but when you finish working and your backyard looks like this… 🌊

wow.

suddenly all those frustrating hours trying to fix something that absolutely did NOT want to be fixed feel worth it. 😂

and honestly, we also really enjoy (sometimes) working on the boat.

we’re very happy to have found this lifestyle and that we both love it — with all its ups and downs. 🫶🏻⛵️

because for this kind of life to work, you both really have to want it. you have to be determined, be willing to get your hands dirty, solve problems together and accept that things will very rarely go exactly as planned. 😂

so…

Normally, we weld with our generator, but it had a problem… 😅 luckily, we have a lot of solar power on board, so we could still get the job done. ☀️⚡️

The welding only used around 1,000 W, while our solar system can provide up to around 5,000 W at a time.

Of course, we can’t do every welding job like this. We can’t weld directly on the actual steel of the boat while everything is connected, because the batteries and all the electrical systems need to be disconnected first. So yeah… let’s fix that generator again 🙃

But we only use our generator for welding (which is not often) and as a backup if we are not making enough ☀️ (which never happened yet because we have in total 900ah batteries)

Living off-grid and getting all our electricity from the sun feels really good. And we run almost everything electrically on board, no gas or so — from cooking stove, thermomix, fridge, oven and freezer to our tools, vacuum cleaner, winches, sewing machine etc

And then there’s the wind. 🌬️ We move with the wind whenever we can and only use the engine when we really need it.

You really feel like you’re living together with the elements out here. 🌊☀️🌬️

But a watermaker is still missing … 🙃 But at some point, there’s always room for another upgrade, right? 🙃
