Boat life never gets boring for sure 🤪⛵️

One minute you're checking how much the anchor dragged overnight... the next minute you're stuck in mud having to be rescued and your dinghy looks like a swimming pool 🙃
.. strong winds and one final low-tide mission before we leave on the next high tide... 🌊
👀 Stay tuned for the next video!

Hint: We're picking up a new crew member. Any guesses? ⬇️

After a harsh winter on anchor, we were curious to see how our Silic One antifouling had performed...

We were really happy to see how easily the growth wiped off — no scraping and barely any scrubbing needed 🙌

We chose Hempel Silic One because:
• It's completely biocide-free 🌊
• Marine growth has a harder time sticking to it
• It can clean itself to a certain extent when the boat is moved regularly
• Easy maintenance and cleaning 🧼
• It can help reduce drag through the water ⛵️
• It can last up to 5 years before needing to be reapplied

Slick Hull Yacht Services did a great job doing our outside hull 🌶✨️

Anyone else here using Silic One? We'd love to hear about your experience. How long were you able to leave it before reapplying?

And for those using a different antifouling system, which one do you use and how has it worked for you? 👇🤓

thank youuu 🫶🏻

How neighbours visit us 🤪⛵

🚣 row as far as possible
🏖 drag the dinghy across the beach until you are next to a stranded Peperoni 🌶
⚓tie up alongside
🍻 have a beer
🌊 wait for the tide
🚣 row home again
..boat life never gets boring 😂⚓

we found our favourite boatyard 😍 join us for a day here

No travel lift, no boatyard fees, no neighbours... just us, the birds, and a giant sandbank 🫶🏻⚓️✨️

The challenge? Everything gets sandy. And I mean EVERYTHING. Drop your brush once and you'll understand 😅
(we had some flashbacks to the sandblasting time haha)

But it's not quite as relaxing at night as we thought. The boat only stands completely still for maybe 10–20 minutes around low tide. Before and after that, waves bang loudly against the hull and keels, and the whole boat gets constant kicks as she settles onto the sand or starts floating again 😅

To make sure we'd have enough water to leave, Jeroen even went for a dive at high tide to check the depth under the boat. We were pretty confident we'd be fine, but decided to move slightly further into deeper water just to be safe by adjusting our bow and stern anchors. We didn't want to risk being stuck here for 4 weeks as the crew for the travel was arriving soon 🙃

Definitely one of the coolest and most unique experiences we've had aboard so far. We will do it again for sure 🌶 but not anytime doon as in the Med it's not possible.

Any questions about drying out a sailboat on the sand? Feel free to ask below 👇⛵️

Most sailboats can’t do this 👀

Because of our twin keels, we can intentionally beach our sailboat to for example work on the hull etc 🙃

this is how we did it (the first time)
From scouting the perfect spot, timing the full moon tides and setting both anchors… to suddenly feeling the boat touch sand and watching the water disappear around us 😅🌊

Such a weird feeling going from waves and wind to being completely still on the sand

We stayed there for a few days of boat jobs — with many more water-sand-water-sand transformations around us hehe

Definitely one of the craziest maneuvers we’ve done so far 🤪

Would you try this? Or have you already, and where?

By the way… if you think (like us) a ~2.80 m tide difference is crazy ... well, the biggest tidal range in the world is in the Bay of Fundy, Canada — up to ~16–17 meters 😱
Maybe at some point peperoni will be there 🌶

During our 10 months refit, not only the boat got a shiny red Peperoni look 🌶 but also shiny new standing rigging and running rigging by .portugal

We are very happy that we chose Pete Keeping for this job. It’s a small family/friends team, all very efficient, friendly, funny, and qualified. It was always a delight when they came, and also very interesting to observe. Communication was very easy, they answered all our curious questions with great joy and we could learn so much.

… and the journey is not over yet.
When the boat is in the water, they do the final tunings, sails go up, and we go for a sail check ⛵️
Peperoni is now ready to safely sail us through this world ⛵️🌶🌍 Thank you! 🫶

office is located in the Parchal boatyard in the Algarve, where you can also buy and order a lot of great materials and equipment.
