FINALLY, ENY IN GOLDEN LIGHT! ✨🇦🇪✈️

After several encounters with A6-ENY, I finally caught her in the light I’ve been waiting for!

We’ve been having a rough Habagat season, with afternoon showers making good golden-hour conditions difficult to come by this season. But yesterday, the weather and ENY’s schedule to Cebu lined up perfectly. The skies cleared, the golden light came through, and I finally got my best shot yet of Emirates’ revised livery.

Here she is arriving from Dubai, beautifully lit by Cebu’s golden hour.

Great to see you again, ENY! Hopefully, there will be many more catches like this as Emirates’ revised livery becomes an increasingly common sight across the fleet. ✨🇦🇪✈️

THE FIRST A321 OF MANY. 🇵🇭✈️

A couple of months ago, I was talking with a fellow Cebu-based planespotter about how exciting it was when Philippine Airlines took delivery of its very first Airbus A321 in 2013. Back then, spotting one was a big deal. We would grab every opportunity we could just to photograph it.

The excitement we have today whenever an Airbus A350 visits Cebu is much like how we felt about the A321 over a decade ago. At the time, Cebu was regularly served by PAL’s A320s, A330s, A340s, Boeing 747s, and Boeing 777s. As more A321s entered the fleet, the widebodies gradually became less common, but PAL was also able to offer more flights. In the next few years, we’ll see the fleet continue to evolve with the arrival of even more A321neos.

Fast forward 13 years, and the A321 is now a familiar sight across the country. That made it special to catch RP-C9901, PAL’s very first A321, arriving from Jinjiang beneath Manila Bay’s golden light.

When she first entered service, she didn’t even have Sharklets. Those came later. Good to see you again, 9901. 🇵🇭✈️

MY SOUL REJOICES IN THE LORD. 💜🙏✈️

Today, the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I promised my sister I would save this video for this special feast day.

Watching 5J 558 take off for Manila and carry her back to her mission, I am reminded of Mary’s Magnificat: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

Mary’s life was a beautiful “yes” to God. In the same way, there is joy in seeing someone you love answer God’s call and go where He sends her.

Like Mary, may we have the courage to say yes, the faith to follow, and the joy to recognize the great things God continues to do in our lives.

May Our Lady assumed into Heaven pray for you and for all those living out their God-given vocations. 🙏

Until we meet again, my sister. Go where God sends you. Ad Jesum per Mariam. Assumpta est Maria! 💜✈️

ALOHA ʻAUINALĀ AND WELCOME HOME, PR 101! 🌺🇵🇭✈️

Bathed in Manila Bay’s famous golden sunset, this Philippine Airlines Airbus A330 arrives from Honolulu, one of PAL’s most historic international destinations.

Honolulu has played a significant role in Philippine Airlines’ history. On July 31, 1946, a chartered Douglas DC-4 made a fuel and rest stop in Honolulu during the first-ever transpacific flight by an Asian airline. By May 21, 1948, PAL had launched regular scheduled DC-6 service between Manila and San Francisco via Honolulu. Then, on January 4, 1980, the airline introduced its iconic Boeing 747 on the Manila-Honolulu-San Francisco route, ushering in a new era of long-haul travel.

Personally, my last visit to Honolulu was only a technical stop while flying from Los Angeles to Manila aboard PAL’s Boeing 747-400. Thanks to the Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777-300ER, those fuel stops are now part of history.

One day, I hope to return to Honolulu, not just as a stopover, but to finally explore the island itself. 🌺✈️💙

Konbanwa, NH 819!

Night panning the arrival of ANA’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner from her home in Tokyo-Narita.

ANA holds a special place in the Dreamliner’s story. As the launch customer of the Boeing 787, the airline worked closely with Boeing from 2004 onward to help shape the aircraft’s design, operational capabilities, and passenger experience. In many ways, the Dreamliner we know today wouldn’t be the same without ANA’s involvement.

Pictured here is the 787-8, the original and smallest member of the Dreamliner family. More than a decade after entering service, it continues to connect Japan with destinations around the world, including Manila.

A fitting aircraft to practice another night panning shot. 🇯🇵✈️

Wǎnshàng hǎo, Air China!

Another airline checked off the spotting list!

This was my first time spotting Air China, arriving into Manila on its evening flight from Beijing, China’s capital. It was also another welcome addition to my growing airline collection.

Air China’s livery is one of those timeless designs that has stood the test of time. While it may look dated by today’s minimalist standards, the classic cheatline and iconic phoenix logo give it a distinctive character that remains instantly recognizable.

Some liveries don’t need to change to make an impression. 🇨🇳✈️

THE QUEEN LIVES ON. 👑☕✈️

This Queen of the Skies found a new lease on life as a café in Bangkok!

During a quick layover, The Trip Reporter, Christian, Kenn Ante, and I made a detour to visit the famous 747 Cafe. It was well worth the trip.

This Boeing 747 faithfully served United Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia), and Orient Thai Airlines before retiring in 2015. Just before the pandemic, she was dismantled, transported to her current home northeast of Bangkok, and transformed into a café. Today, visitors can explore the flight deck, walk through the cabin, and even step out onto the wing.

For me, this was my first time “on board” a Boeing 747 since my last flight on one with Philippine Airlines in 2014. Walking through the cabin, climbing the iconic staircase, and sitting in the flight deck brought back so many childhood memories.

It may no longer cross oceans, but this Queen is still inspiring aviation enthusiasts from around the world. And yes, that quick side trip was absolutely worth it. 👑✈️☕

DOUBLE FIRST. 🇮🇳✈️

This was a double first for me.

Not only was this my first time spotting an Indian airline in the Philippines, but it was also my first time spotting a Vistara-liveried Air India Airbus A321.

Following Air India’s acquisition of Vistara in 2024, these aircraft are gradually being repainted into Air India’s new livery. That means this hybrid chapter in Indian aviation won’t be around forever, making catches like this even more special.

Even if this ended up being a belly shot, I was determined to make it count. I especially love the elegant blend of deep purple and gold, a color combination that has made the Vistara livery one of my favorites.

Another new airline, another first, and another memorable addition to the collection. 🇮🇳✈️

MAJULAH SINGAPURA! 🇸🇬✈️

Today, Singapore celebrates 61 years of independence! 🇸🇬

Singapore has long been a dream destination for me. I was supposed to visit earlier this year, but I had to set those plans aside for something of greater importance. The Lion City will have to wait a little longer!

I’ve heard so many stories about Singapore, from its incredible melting pot of cultures and flavors to its place as a global financial and technology hub. For an avgeek, it’s also home to two icons I’ve long wanted to experience: Singapore Changi Airport, consistently regarded among the world’s best airports, and Singapore Airlines, one of the world’s most celebrated carriers.

Two dreams remain on the list: visit Singapore and fly Singapore Airlines! God-willing, I’ll get to check both off someday. 🇸🇬✈️

As Singapore celebrates its independence, I pray for continued peace, progress, prosperity, and abundance for Singapore and its people.

Happy National Day, Singapore! Majulah Singapura! ❤️🤍🇸🇬✈️

UNTIL NEXT TIME, DUMAGUETE. 💙💛✈️

It’s 8.8, and Cebu Pacific’s seat sale is on! If Dumaguete has been on your travel list, maybe this is your sign to book that trip. 👀

Speaking of Dumaguete, here’s one last spotting session before I flew home!

I was traveling with friends, but they booked an earlier flight back to Cebu while mine wasn’t until later that evening. After parting ways at the hotel, I headed back to Silliman Beach just in time to spot the aircraft that would be taking them home.

Pictured here is RP-C4266 arriving as 5J 627 from Manila, before turning around to operate as 5J 4028 back to Cebu. Waving goodbye from the beach instead of the terminal definitely made for a more memorable send-off.

Did you know this is the shortest Airbus A320 flight in Cebu Pacific’s network? The flight from Dumaguete to Cebu can take as little as 15 to 20 minutes from takeoff to touchdown!

So while Cebu Pacific’s 8.8 seat sale is on, maybe it’s time to make those travel plans happen. ✈️

See you again soon, Dumaguete. 🌊💙💛✈️
