Happy Star Wars Day! A good time to go check out Comet C2025 R3 (PanSTARRS). The second photo shows you just how faint and small it actually is. I couldn't see with the naked eye. Can you spot it?
Tracked and stacked.

Another impressive electrical storm tonight. Here it is lighting up the sky, direction Kawerau and Edgecumbe.

Farming Like Grandad Community Fair Whakatāne
One of the best days on the local calendar each year. FLG is an old-school family fun day. Tractors, vintage cars and machinery, biggest pumpkin, best scarecrow, jam and baking, market stalls, petting zoo, show jumping, local businesses and clubs, line dancing, pipe band, wood skills.... it is all going on at Farming Like Grandad. Here are some moments I captured on Saturday.

WHAKATANE SCOTTISH PIPE BAND
Scottish sounds came to Farming Like Grandad. There was some Kiwi sounds in there too with an opening rendition of Pōkarekare Ana. I was especially proud with my sister playing the pipes. Well done Whakatane Scottish Pipe Band Association. You looked and sounded fabulous!!!

CROSS STITCH TINY HOUSES
I love the way Farming Like Grandad brings the community together. Tessa Keene is one of Whakatane's unsung gems.

Tessa makes 100 jars of delicious jam each week for foodbank. While it is boiling away, she cross stitches, making the most incredible miniature houses 🏠 Each house is has been important to her family heritage. Places she's lived, places long gone that her great grandparents lived but now perfectly replicated and brought to life in the most delightful little village.

It wasn't what I was ever expecting to see so had to make do with what camera gear I had with me....but look at how cute they are! I can also attest that her jam is delicious - especially her pear and ginger jam 😋

End of the day. The maize is battered but still standing. The harvester will be here any day now, thankful it is still upright after the cyclone.

Safe inside from the cyclone outside.
Cyclone Vaianu main centre came within a few kms of our house (20km southwest of Whakatane). 130-150km wind gusts and 8-13m waves. Thankfully there was plenty of notice for a State of Emergency and evacuations near the beaches. Very thankful it was on a Sunday and we can stay warm and dry.
