The last sun of the day hitting the top of Mt Cook / Aoraki, in the South Island of New Zealand...

Photographed from the far end of Lake Pukaki, near the tourist info, it was just a breath-taking sight seeing it so lit up like this... 🤩

A kind of interesting shot here taken just over 10 years ago (April 2016). Story of a trip, so to speak. This is Lindisfarne Castle in the North-East of England…

I had set off in a hire car in the very (very 🥱) early morning from Scotland, to capture the sunrise over the 16th century castle. It didn’t really work out due to there not being a lot of cloud in the sky for the sunrise and the boats bobbing about all over the place in the time-lapse, made for rather disconcerting viewing. 🤮

And, as it dawned on me at the time (excuse pun), with my main camera doing the time-lapse, I only had my ‘old’ phone to take any pictures. This is one of those pictures (which, ironically, turned out better than the time-lapse 🤪).

Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, is quite famous in itself as it is the site of the first ever Viking raid, in 793, on what would become the UK. This was long before the castle that you see here was built but still a very photographic place. Being on an island you can only get to it twice a day on a causeway that gets flooded during high tides.

Flying past Wairere Falls close to sunset one day and I luckily had my zoom lens with me....

Located close to Matamata at 153 metres (500 feet) it is the highest waterfall in the North Island of New Zealand.

With clear skies tonight (fog starting to roll in tho'), I thought I would try my luck with Astrophotography again!

I went a few miles east of Hamilton and found a place by the train tracks. It was pretty busy place on Highway 26 with lots of cars going past at 100 km/hr (I set up shop safely off the road & to the side 🤕) .

In fact the red & white blur here are the car lights of someone going past...

An astro photo that I took out at Piha a few years ago. The 'Galactic Kiwi' is just in view at the very top of this shot.

To be honest I was surprised that this photo came out so well i.e. that you can see so much of the Milky Way and the stars in general. As there is a fairly decent sized city, Auckland (1.7 mil), just over 20km away - with all its inherent light pollution!

Piha is a rugged and wild beach located on the West coast of Auckland - well worth a visit if you are ever in the neighbourhood. Even the drive there and especially the descent into Piha, is an adventure in itself... 🤪

Ever wondered what the Victoria Bridge in Hamilton looks like at night? Oh... I guess not! 🙃

I went out to try my hand at some Astrophotography tonight with mind that the weather is probably not going to be the best for the coming few days (cloudy at night anyway).

I had grand visions of getting the bridge over the Waikato River with the Milky Way rising up behind it. Yeah right!

Light pollution was always going to be a problem being in the heart of a city. But it was far too lit up down there and the cloud had built up wickedly since I did some test shots an hour or so before.

So here's a colourful picture of the bridge anyway! 🤪
