Soft lit chestnut forest.

I thought this poem captured in words my chestnut forest above so beautifully! And given we have just began May, the last month of Autumn here, it's so apt!

"Under the canopy of green and light, a spreading giant stands in silent might. In in May, it lights its candles, white and fair, and scented heavy on the evening air. With prickly burrs that guard the prize within, where autumn's rustic brown and gold begin" Anon, but likely a rendition of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous 1839 poem, "The Village Blacksmith"

It's amazing what a new lens, and being stuck in slow traffic along SH1 for a little while can achieve! The lovely Autumn colors have arrived! Roadside photography isn't too bad with scenery like this.

Tūturiwhatu, the New Zealand dotterel.
These delicate birds, are rare, beautiful, tiny shorebirds! They camouflage extremely well, and are endemic to NZ. Such a special experience to see them at sunset back in November in Ōkārito.
