This was the reason I went to Wakapuaka on a sunny evening in April.

There's an oak woodland up there, but the angle of the hill to the setting sun makes it difficult — most of the trees don't catch the light the way I was hoping.

This one, on the north western side, was the exception. Sometimes a location gives you less than you expect, and you work with what it offers.

My main motivation for going to Wakapuaka Cemetery was for the autumn trees during golden hour, in April.

I got those, but after the sun was gone, I found the highest vantage point I could, set the tripod up, put on an ND filter, and let the slow shutter take it all in.

Sometimes the image you didn't plan for is the one worth staying for.
