Planning your week? Make sure Tuesday night is locked in! 🌌

We’ve got a massive double-header at the club this Tuesday (26 May):

The Results: See the winners of our Photojournalism Competition as judged by the incredible Elizabeth Passuello. It’s a rare chance to hear how a world-class judge breaks down a winning image.

The Stars: Tim Stewart is taking the floor to show us the ropes of Astrophotography. If you’ve wanted to learn how to capture the Waikato night sky, you won’t want to miss this.

Not a paid member yet? No worries! We love seeing new faces. Come along as a guest to see what we’re all about. If you like the vibe, we can chat about how to sign up so you can enter the next competition and get your own work critiqued by experts like Elizabeth.

When: Tuesday 26 May, 7:30 PM.

Where: Melville Methodist Church Hall, Bader Street, Hamilton

See you under the stars! ✨📸

It’s Club Night! 🏛️

We’ve got a massive Tuesday lined up. First, we’ll be revealing the results of our Photojournalism Competition. We are incredibly lucky to have the esteemed Elizabeth Passuello (FPSNZ, FNPSNZ, EFIAP/s) judging our work. Seeing how a judge of her calibre interprets "the decisive moment" is an education in itself.

Following the results:
We are diving deep into the night sky with guest speaker Tim Stewart. Tim will be sharing his secrets on Astrophotography. If you’ve ever wanted to capture the Milky Way over the Waikato but didn't know where to start, this is for you!

When: Tuesday 26 May, 7:30 PM.

Where: Methodist Church Hall, Bader Street

Who: Open to all skill levels.

Come along, get inspired, and let’s talk shop. 🌌🔭

We love our online community, but the real magic happens inside the club. If you’ve been sitting on the fence about becoming a financial member of the Waikato Photographic Society, here is what you’re missing out on:

Expert Feedback: Only paid members can enter our monthly competitions. You’ll get your work in front of top-tier NZ judges (like Elizabeth Passuello!) and receive written results and critiques to help you improve fast.

Exclusive Learning: Every month, we produce a bespoke PowerPoint presentation covering everything from the technical basics to creative masterclasses. It’s like a mini-photography course included in your membership.

The "Big Trips": We have some incredible retreats on the horizon that are strictly for members only, including:

🦜 Tiritiri Matangi: A 4-day immersive nature photography trip to one of NZ’s most important bird sanctuaries.

🔦 Waitomo Caving: A weekend at Stubbs Farm for some epic, gritty, and creative low-light cave photography.

Your Tribe: Photography can be a lonely hobby. Joining the club means regular chats with like-minded people who "get" the obsession with golden hour and shutter speeds.

Join a legacy of Waikato photographers. Whether you’re a young creative or a seasoned pro, we’re building a diverse, open, and active club.

Ready to take your Monochrome game to the next level 🏁

Join us on Tuesday, 28 April for a deep dive into the timeless art of Black and White photography. We’ve designed this night to cover the two most important steps in the process:

The Vision: Hear from experienced B&W photographers on how they ‘pre-visualize’ a shot. It’s not just about removing colour—it’s about finding the contrast, the mood, and the shapes that make a B&W image pop. 👁️

The Technique: Once you’ve caught the light, how do you perfect it? We will have a step-by-step PowerPoint demo on converting your colour RAW files into stunning B&W masterpieces using Lightroom and Photoshop. 💻

Whether you’re a film veteran or a digital native, this workshop will change the way you look through your viewfinder!
