Young boys of the Chimbu skeleton tribe move eerily through the forest, Papua New Guinea.

Whilst the historic use of this body paint was linked to warfare and fear tactics, today the skeleton tribe adornes themselves this way as a tribute to the history of their culture. It is now practiced as a welcomed non threatening connection with their past ancestors.

The vibrant colors of the Huli Wigmen in the Papua New Guinea highlands.

The ornate headgear is crafted from the feathers of birds of paradise and local parrots woven into wigs of human hair. A spectacle that has to be seen to be believed.

The incredible cultures, costumes and body adornments makes the remote corners of PNG a destination like no other. A true photographers paradise.

The legend of the Asaro Mudmen of Papua New Guinea comes from a defeated tribe that hid in the river from a rival clan. Emerging late evening covered in mud, their appearance fooled their enemies into thinking they were ancestral spirits, causing the rival tribes to flee in fear.

The joy in the eyes, the incredible cultures, the unique face and body adornments makes the remote corners of PNG a destination like no other. A true photographers paradise.

Nikon Z9. Nikkor 70-200 2.8.
ISO 200. F3.5 for 1/500 second.

This image was exposed for the highlights / rim lighting around the face giving a dramatic, simple 3d feel to the image.
The exposure I chose to use here is 3.3 stops underexposed from the meter reading. It was so much fun sharing these techniques and opportunities with my guests.
