Native to eastern Australia, these vibrant parrots are only occasional visitors or escaped birds in New Zealand, making every sighting a special moment for bird lovers.

🔥 Firewheel Tree (Stenocarpus sinuatus) 🔥

A burst of nature’s own fireworks! These striking crimson blooms belong to the Firewheel Tree, a spectacular species native to Queensland, Australia. The unusual wheel-shaped flowers bloom during autumn, providing a valuable nectar source for native birds such as tūī and bellbirds.

📍 Captured at Cornwall Park, Auckland and this magnificent Firewheel Tree is estimated to be around 60 years old
