RAINBOW OR BROWN? 🎣🐟
New Zealand is blessed with some of the most incredible trout fishing on the planet. From crystal-clear rivers to stunning alpine lakes, few experiences compare to watching a big trout appear from nowhere and smash a lure or fly.
But here's the question...
If you could only catch ONE for the rest of your life, would you choose a Rainbow Trout or a Brown Trout?
Rainbow Trout:
✅ Hard-fighting
✅ Spectacular jumps
✅ Beautiful colours
Brown Trout:
✅ Bigger average size
✅ Wary and challenging
✅ True trophy fish
I've been lucky enough to catch both, and every fish has its own story. Looking through these photos reminds me just how special our trout fisheries are here in New Zealand.

I headed out for the first time since the The Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show. and made a few observations. I was fishing close to Bream Head in 30 metres . The water temp was still pretty high at 18.5 c and there was a lot of red Bloom in the water. The fishing was good with plenty of good quality snapper in the 45 - 70 cm size.They were aggressively taking a 5” Rapala Crush City jerk about 5 metres off the bottom. The colour was an orange and yellow solar flare(A colour that has been working great lately )with a 1/4 oz jig head so slow sinking. I added a smear of Pro-Cure Bait Scents butt juice. Conclusion plenty of good fishing still to be had . Fish are moving a little deeper and feeding hard.Total fishing time 1 hour.10 casts, equalling 4 quality fish two released.

I love the Recon electric motors on my two Stabicrafts. I find them really versatile and full of features that help my fishing. My question to you is what do you use your electric motor for? Spot locking, controlling the boat in the shallows while fishing or to be stealthy when lure fishing?

Nothing beats a smooth day on the water… especially when the launch and retrieve are this easy.
Loving this setup with the 1850 Stabicraft, DMW trailer and Balex ABL. Makes solo boating and busy ramps so much less stressful and means more time doing what matters — getting out on the water.
