A huge thanks to Tom Johanson and the team at Okuma NZ for sending me the 40 th Anniversary Commemorative Reel , stainless flask and hat. Almost too nice to get fishy but it really deserves to get on the water for some “Inspired Fishing” Congratulations to OKUMA New Zealand Okuma Fishing USA on 40 years .

The answer to the question is ......Pig Fish.....And we have a winner. Well done . I absolutely love pig fish. I don’t target them but will keep a couple of good sized ones if I catch them. They are easy to fillet, have small bones and the flesh is white and delicious. PM your address and I will send your book out.

Friday night crunchy fish tortillas.
Guess what the fish is …. Hint it’s not snapper, it’s my favourite. Guess right and one of you will win a copy of my Snapper Cookbook.

Enjoyed the mint weather yesterday and took the 1450 Stabicraft to Cape Karikari. Fishing was good , I caught 5 snapper up to 70 cm , a small kingfish just under legal and a few stud kahawai. I was working the contours just off the headlands with 5” Crush City soft baits in Solar Flare and Rock Melon colours. The fish definitely liked the bright colours with natural colours getting no action. The main trick was to keep you lure in strike zone as long as possible . So using a 1/2 jig head and the Recon electric motor to hold on the spot once you saw the sign on the sounder.
