What an amazing weekend of photobooks, photozines, exhibitions, discussions and catching up with the Aotearoa photo community.
Thanks to all at photobooknz for organising another great event. It was fab to launch our two new books, Paris Munro’s A Call Towards Home and Jake Morton’s Constellation (pictured) and to showcase the work from our inaugural zine workshop.

Zine workshop
 
In June PhotoForum hosted a series of zine workshops with a curated group of eight artists, who have all been producing and exhibiting contemporary photographic work in Auckland. The workshops were facilitated by PhotoForum committee members Theo Macdonald and Yvonne Shaw and were made possible by a generous grant from the Moïse Cretney Family.
 
The workshop series included talks and feedback sessions by significant Aotearoa artists and book designers including Bryce Galloway, Fiona Lascelles & Tony Nyberg, Katie Kerr and Jonty Valentine, with support by Karen Crisp and David Cowlard.
 
The cohort of artists / zine-makers are: Hannah Rose Arnold, Cheska Brown, Malory Campbell, Aileen Chen, Millie Dunstall, Tess Elliott, Victor Staaf, and Christian Turner.
 
All the zines produced during the workshop will be on sale at the photobook fair at PhotobookNZ this Saturday.

PhotoForum presents the third of a new series of online exhibitions for 2026.

Tink Lockett’s 𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒎 𝑵𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒈𝒊𝒂
with an essay by Clare Gemima

“Most of us inherit some version of the family album, whether carefully assembled or loosely accumulated—a collection that both anchors and unsettles our sense of self, and of those who made us. There are also photographs we keep close, even sleep beside for years, and ones strewn amongst others we would rather bury altogether that can’t be returned to without the need to pour a (very) strong drink. These attachments are not incidental. with an essay by Janine Randerson.

“The rain unsteadies the image, pointing to the fragility and susceptibility of pictures and the illness of current political representation.
