Jesse Ezra Photography

Jesse Ezra Photography I produce fine art metal and acryllic original photographs that are particularly stunning in large format. My passion is high altitude panoramas.

Message me for prints. I capture grande landscape scenes, often in panorama format. My focus is high mountain landscapes in hard to reach areas, but I'm not above taking a beautiful roadside photo when the opportunity presents itself. My photos look best as large metal or acrylic prints. Many of them are taken with a medium format camera. If you would like a large print for you home, office, or commercial space, please message me for a quote. Everything I do is custom.

Which mountain range has the best light? Some of the most spectacular views in the world, have awkward light angles at sunset or sunrise. This fairly well known view of Ama Dablam in Nepal is absolutely spectacular to witness in person. However the angle of the light at sunset and the surround mountains, don’t give much to work with in late October. I think closer to June, the suns angle would be more behind me and thus potentially reflect on the peak. Of course this is monsoon season, so the chances of getting light through the clouds would be slim. Also I’m not sure if the peaks to the west would allow light to hit the peak at sunset. There are so many factors that affect how light “feels” in a given area. To me the Sierra Nevada in California has a very distinctive feel to it. Warm, dry, usually clear skies, very direct. As you go further north, the Canadian Rockies also have distinctive light. Greater cloud coverage and more angled light due to being farther north, create what is probably my favorite palette in the world. It’s softer than the Sierra, complex but not over saturated. As you head further North to say Alaska the light gets even softer. Faint pastels that are quiet and peaceful complement the snowy landscape but less frequently give you brilliant color filled skies. Nepal is closer to the equator than any of the previous examples, similar to Tampa Florida. However the altitude and extreme landscape of the mountains creates an interesting mix of light which is hard to put my finger on. It certainly doesn’t often have the spectacular light shows one might associate with a tropical latitude. It’s rarely as pastel as other cold snowy northern ranges but also not as harsh as the lighting in the Sierra.

Long stretches without having spent time in the mountains, makes me long to be back in these majestic places even more. Cities aren’t our natural habitat. Maybe Rocky crags like this aren’t either. But sometimes you have to be this far away to feel like you’re back in nature. Bugaboo Provincial Park might be crowded at times, but there are always places to escape the crowd if you put in the effort. Probably my favorite panorama from 2024.

It’s interesting looking at panoramas from different parts of the world and realizing how similar the structure of image is. This is a panorama from the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains. To me, It has a very similar structure to the previous photo I posted from the dolomites in Italy. neither range feels very similar when you’re walking through it. The dolomites is more forested and has more crumbling sandstone like rock. I don’t actually know what type of rock makes up these mountains, but it’s definitely not primarily granite like the Sierra. The Sierra tends to have sharp sheer cliffs, lots of gray granite, covered in lakes. And yet both images feel very similar. Maybe it’s just the compositions that I’m drawn to that creates similar images. This particular panorama was the result of spending the night just feet from the summit of this peak. I actually had a great campsite and even put up my tent. Barely had enough water which was my bad, otherwise a great night in Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. Below this panorama are Wales and Wallace Lakes with Mount Barnard in the distance.

Watching the sun set on an overcast day from the summit of a small mountain overlooking the Drei Zinnen Hutte and the Madonna Della Croda (the small chapel) as well as Laghi Dei Piani (the small lake on the left) and of course the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo. It’s a very popular place even during the off season but of course the crowds rarely stay till the sun sets. The hut was not open in November when I was here.

Alpe di Siusi Seiser Alm in the Italian Dolomites. Sunset at this spot requires a walk along a road which is fairly restricted to automobile traffic. It’s another interesting location which is some sort of National Park, but also has plenty of commercial development all over it, from roads, to cabins, and of course the mandatory gondolas! Going in off season such as late November is a great way to avoid the worst of the crowds.

Alpenglow from the summit of Seceda. Many popular locations in the Italian Dolomites are either walk ups or gondola rides. Seceda is no exception. The hillside to the right is dotted with cabins that locals can even drive to. I remember years ago thinking how epic this spot would be in person. Definitely didn’t feel as epic with the buzz of drones and people all around. There’s even a bar a short walk from where I shot this photo. Still a cool mountain and a few hikes to escape the tourists.
